The Opening (July 8-10, 2016)

Just got to watch the two broadcasts. Wish there was a little more TV coverage but I guess I am greedy. Just a very, very good showing for our commits and quite entertaining. Quick recap of my observations and comments from the media on our guys:

1) JK Dobbins had a HUGE weekend. Not only did he absolutely destroy the skills competition, but he looked extremely fast out there and very comfortable catching the ball. As much as I want Akers, I think Dobbins might be better, particularly in our offense...different players completely but Dobbins is dynamic as they get. He is going to fit great here.

2) Ezekiel Elliott just goes above and beyond for us. To show up for us and recruit like he did just only further shows why he is such a true Buckeye and why he is irreplaceable. Huge kudos and a big thanks from Buckeye nation to Zeke. You'll have no bigger fan in the NFL than this guy right here.

3) Tyjon Lindsey looked very electric and showed steady hands. You could tell 7 on 7 is frustrating for him to be down by touch because he makes his plays in space primarily. Even at that, his ability to cut on a dime and accelerate is off the charts and it was on display.

4) Trevon Grimes had a nice TD catch that I saw (and backflip). I saw ESPN has him at #51 and that is laughable. I hadn't checked their rankings in awhile and while they are not too bad overall, they need to fix Grimes' ranking. Top WR in the nation in my eyes and comfortably. As much as I hate the backflip, seeing a legit 6'4 200 lb. guy do that with ease is impressive.

5) Tate Martell is said to have had a really good weekend but he has plenty to work on. 7 on 7 is not his ideal platform due to basically being stuck in the pocket, but he needs to shorten his throwing motion and be more consistent. Nevertheless, he looked pretty darn good at certain points and he does have a cannon arm. Really excited to see him in the S&G, he has a ton of tools to work with and you cannot forget about his ability to make plays with his feet.

6) Cam Akers actually looked great catching the ball, a little surprised to see him so comfortable catching the ball. Dude is yoked as well. Akers and Dobbins for 2016.

EDIT: There are more broadcasts continuing, so I will circle back to update if there is more.

7) Jake Fromm is not an OSU target (UGA commit) but I was awfully impressed with him. The Bulldogs got a good one there.

- Unrelated but as stupid as the headgear looked, I see the utility and wish we had them when I was playing. Too many head collisions with only the helmets on without pads.

I didn't get to watch the broadcasts. However, with what you are saying about 7 on 7 not being Tate's ideal platform, it is impressive that Tate still has dominated 7 on 7 these last 2 years.

He does really well in them generally but yes, it is impressive that he does so well considering he can't use his legs.

Good breakdown thanks.

Scout has him at the low end of the top-100, where he slid after one allegedly iffy camp. I guess he was no Shane Morris at that event.

So much so that he's been moved to WR at times this week. That's really impressive for a chiseled RB

Thanks for the heads up on the Scout rating, didn't realize that. Not sure where the disconnect is, Grimes is as good as they get. He could commit anywhere and I would stand by that. But it looked like he had a good week in Oregon.

But that is impressive on Akers, I am definitely sold on him.

#9 WR, which is Binjimen Victor, Brian Cole, Curtis Samuel territory.
