Offense
-Jim Tressel is a great head football coach.
-Joe Daniels has done a great job at mentoring Troy Smith and Todd Boeckman to their maximum potential, and he should be able to do the same with Terrelle Pryor.
-Dick Tressel is one of the best running back coaches in football. Dan Herron's progression has been astounding.
-Darrell Hazell really has done a great job with coaching the wide receivers.
-I can't really pass judgement on John Peterson because, frankly, the tight ends haven't had enough of a chance to prove themselves. Why won't our quarterbacks throw to the tight end? I miss the good old Ben Hartsock days. Our inability to throw to the tight ends reminds me of the Cooper years. Hearing my dad, sandgk, scream "TIGHT END! TIGHT END!" over and over during the 90s, is burned into my memory. And, frankly, I find myself doing it today too. It's painful. I want to know why the tight ends never get involved. It should be noted that John Peterson has done a stellar job as a recruiting coordinator.
-Jim Bollman has coached some great offensive lines at Ohio State. I blame a lot of the offensive line troubles on recruiting, not on Bollman. Bollman will have a great time with the Brewster-Shugarts-Adams line. I don't really view him as an offensive coordinator, per se, because he doesn't call the plays. Jim Tressel does. As an offensive line coach, he has done the best he can given the situation.
-Thus, I think Ohio State should go out and get a fresh offensive mind to take over some of the playcalling duties. I believe that this would benefit the team as a hole, and it would allow Jim Tressel to be able to focus more on head coaching.
Defense
-Jim Heacock's defensive schemes have been less than stellar. It always seems like the best teams can find holes in our defense and exploit them. The idea of doing extra ordinary things, as opposed to extraordinary things, just doesn't work anymore. 2002's defense had players that did extraordinary things, and it showed.
It should also be noted that Heacock was great at mentoring the defensive line before he was defensive coordinator. However, now he is very ineffective at mentoring the defensive line. I'd like to see Heacock stay on as a defensive line coach, but not as the defensive coordinator.
-Luke Fickell has done a fine job at mentoring our linebackers.
-Paul Haynes has left many questions to be answered. His mentoring of Kurt Coleman and Anderson Russell has left much to be desired.
-Taver Johnson has done a great job with mentoring Malcolm Jenkins and, most especially, Chimdi Chekwa.
-Thus, just as with the offensive coordinator position, I believe a new defensive coordinator with a new defensive philosophy should be brought in.
