CARPENTER, DINGLER NAMED CAPTAINS
Infielder Matt Carpenter and catcher Dillon Dingler were named captains of the 2020 Ohio State baseball team, head coach Greg Beals announced Jan. 9. The captains, as selected by their teammates, have combined to appear in 169 career games.
Carpenter, a fifth-year senior, has appeared in 67 games, including 41 starts as a redshirt junior a season ago. A native of Aurora, Ohio, Carpenter hit .257 with eight doubles, two triples 25 runs scored and 15 RBI as the Buckeyes won the Big Ten Tournament and advanced to an NCAA Regional in Nashville in 2019. Carpenter is a four-time OSU Scholar-Athlete and three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection.
Dingler, selected a team captain as a sophomore last season, was named second team All-Big Ten and earned Big Ten All-Tournament team recognition in 2019 after being selected to the Big Ten All-Freshman team in 2018. The North Canton, Ohio, native has appeared in 102 career games, including 88 starts, totaling 17 doubles, three triples, seven home runs, 62 runs scored and 36 RBI in two seasons. The backstop is a two-time OSU Scholar-Athlete and a 2019 Academic All-Big Ten selection.

TRIO OF BUCKEYES NAMED TO B1G PLAYERS TO WATCH LIST
Juniors Dillon Dingler and sophomores Garrett Burhenn and Seth Lonsway were named to the Big Ten Preseason to Watch List, the conference office announced Wednesday afternoon. The Buckeyes were picked to finish second in the Big Ten. Michigan was the league’s preseason favorite followed by the Buckeyes, Minnesota, Nebraska and Illinois.
Dingler, now a two-time team captain, was named second team All-Big Ten and earned Big Ten All-Tournament team recognition in 2019 after being selected to the Big Ten All-Freshman team in 2018. Burhenn went 6-4 with a 3.96 ERA on his way to Big Ten All-Freshman team honors. The Indianapolis native struck out 69 and walked 31 in 91.0 innings pitched as the Buckeyes Friday-night starter. Burhenn notched a quality start in 11 of 15 starts.
Lonsway, a Second Team Preseason All-American by
Collegiate Baseball, voted a First Team Freshman All-American by Perfect Game/Rawlings and a Second Team Freshman All-American by
Baseball America and the NCBWA and a season ago. Lonsway, a Third Team All-Big Ten selection and member of the Big Ten All-Freshman and All-Tournament teams last year, went 8-4 with a 3.70 ERA in 92.1 innings pitched over 17 starts. The left-hander led all Division I freshmen with 126 strikeouts and struck out 71 batters in Big Ten play, the most of any conference pitcher.
