The NCAA investigation and my apologies

GoofyBuckeye

I just want to apologize to all of those who I scared the crap out of last year when I broke the news that the NCAA was looking into Tressel's past and present. It appears that all the NCAA could find under the current management was the Troy Smith problem, which is incredible news.

What I reported was true and accurate as far as the NCAA questioning Tressel's past at Y-State and any possible involvement in illegal NCAA activities currently. What I was wrong about was that Tressel may have in fact had some direct involvement (I can't speak about Y-State because I really don't know enough about it). The people I got my info from are trustworthy and would have no reason to make anything up and I confided in you all with what I was being told. Thank god most of it was wrong. The only thing that did turn out to be correct was there was a rogue booster that helped a player out and that turned out to be Smith.

I can't say whether or not Tressel really did help some players out here and there but I am thouroughly relieved and happy that it was all just a big lie according to the NCAA.

I'm glad I reported what I knew at the time because I felt you all deserved to know that a big investigation was starting up last year. What I'm not happy about is contributing to some of the invalid possibilities as far as violations go.

It's overwith boys and girls. Don't expect anything major to be handed down by the NCAA for the Smith violation. We can finally move on and get that good feeling back in our souls that Tressel is a good man and OSU football has it's priorities straight.

The purpose of the rumor board as I understand it is to share information obtained from sources that may ultimately prove to be inaccurate. I don't see where you did anything improper that warrants an apology. Like you, I am glad it is over.

Goofy, your apology is accepted, at least by me. I think we're all relieved nothing else came out of the football investigation.

But we're smart enough to not expect an apology from ESPiN. :wink2:

Goof - Do you really expect me to accept an apology from you the week I go head to head with you in fantasy baseball?

In keeping with our tradition - Do not apologize to me. (The rest of these fine people notwithstanding) 10 bucks says a certain Vol fan we know will still go on and on about it.

More on point, it's nice to see some light at the end of this, and I'm glad things look like "no big deal."
