The Masters (Official Thread)

If Tiger wins I'm buying everyone a round of Boilermakers
Appears that your wallet will not take a hit. In reality Tiger faces a tremendous amount of competition today. There are probably 15-20 guys that can win any given major today, where as, in Tiger’s heyday there may have been a max of 5 guys. None of today’s players fear a red and black clad Tiger on Sunday.

Tiger is a 40-something guy who has missed time due to injury. The people waiting for him to be "back" are going to be waiting the rest of their lives. There's nothing special about his game now. He's an aging star whose best days are well behind him.

My prediction years ago that he wouldn't catch Jack's majors mark is truer than I even imagined at the time.

I don’t get why the media thinks Tiger still moves the needle so much. There are so many really good young players, that I find it much more entertaining to watch.

There's probably at least 2 reasons for the continued fasination with him:

1. He's an African American. He's not the Jackie Robinson of the PGA tour; but he was the first African American to totally dominate the game (i.e. for several years).

2. Woods has won 79 official PGA tour events, second only to Sam Snead. He won his 14th major at the age of 33. Had his diovorce and subsequent health issues not derailed his play (in 2009), and he passed Jack (i.e. 18 majors) he would probably be considered the GOAT.

Interesting photo:
