Once again, here are the games on 12/12, to discuss possibilities if TTUN cancels:
Saturday, Dec. 12
Michigan at Ohio State | 12 p.m. | FOX, MAYBE
Wisconsin at Iowa
Michigan State at Penn State
Minnesota at Nebraska
Illinois at Northwestern
Purdue at Indiana
Rutgers at Maryland
If Wiscy, Iowa, Nebraska, NW’ern, Indiana, or Rutgers cancels, we could play one of these on 12/12 to get to 6 games:
Iowa
Wiscy
Minny
Illinois
Purdue
Maryland
If none of those teams cancel, we could play Indiana a second time if Purdue cancels, Penn State a second time if Sparty cancels, Nebraska a second time if Minny cancels, or Rutgers a second time if Maryland cancels. It’s unlikely they’d let Sparty be the opponent in consecutive weeks if Penn State cancels.
If Illinois and TTUN both cancel on 12/12, I don’t think the B1G would let us play the CCG on 12/12 with NW’ern, and then play TTUN on 12/19, but that’s a remote possibility. It’s very unlikely they’d try to play TTUN on 12/26 if the Buckeyes get to 6-0 and are selected to play in a CFB semi-final bowl on Jan. 1st.
If TTUN is the only team to cancel a game next week, the B1G could switch the 12/12 schedule around so the Buckeyes could play a 6th game. This would require taking a game away from Nebraska, Rutgers, or somebody in order to get tOSU a sixth game. The SEC just re-
shuffled its games for 12/12 and 12/19, which were originally open dates, apparently to benefit those teams still in CFB contention. I have doubts that Kevin Warren would swap out teams already scheduled for 12/12, but it’s one last way to get tOSU eligible for the CCG without changing the 6-game minimum rule. Perhaps Gene Smith should raise that possibility after today’s game.
