I'm hanging with Mr. Smirnoff tonight, explaining to him all the reasons to hate Michigan. It's been a few hours, and there's still some work to do so I'm heading to the kitchen, but he's getting the hang of it.

The above linked dispatch article was written by a 2nd cousin of mine on my mom's side. My family had almost every Thanksgiving of my childhood at his house (OK - his parents' house). I never knew this story, because my immediate family spent every edition of The Game with my dad's side of the family. I'm not surprised that he was still too ticked-off to talk about it at Thanksgiving (less than a week later) that year.

If I'd known that "Aunt" Esther had made my cousin Grant watch that classic game with the Gradishar/Cusick goal-line-stands at LAZARUS I would have kicker her in the shin the following Thursday. Don't judge me. I was 9.
