The Game, tOSU at ttun, Nov. 27th,12pm FOX (3654 down to 0)

I just have to say... this is my support group this week. I can't recall being this worked up over a game in a very long time. Probably 2016?

So many things telling me this is an ass kicking and for some reason feelings that are telling me it'll be a very close game.

Apologies for probably over participating but I'm trying just ease my nerves.

No idea how these kids or coaches do it.

It's easier for them. They can just concentrate on the approach. Do their job.

We get our guts twisted around by something we have zero fucking control over.

It's like being a parent.

I've been following all the banter on the internet this week. Lots of buzz about this game as there should be. I've noticed many talking heads and TTUN people talking about how much better the their Defense is than ours. So I decided to take a look for myself and was surprised at what I found:

Both the Buckeyes and the Wolverines have played 8 Big Ten games with 6 common opponents. In those 8 Big Ten games the Wolverines have allowed 145 total points while the Buckeyes have allowed 147 total points. Basically the same. Also, in those 8 Big Ten games the Wolverines have allowed 2,507 total yards while the Buckeyes have allowed 2,677 total yards. Huh, not much of a difference there either.

Of the 6 common opponents, we all know that Ohio State had the larger margin of victory against all 6 by comparison.

But as far as total yards allowed to the 6 common opponents, Ohio State allowed FEWER total yards to 5 of the 6 as compared to TTUN.

Against Rutgers they allowed 352 we allowed 346.
Against Maryland they allowed 359 we allowed 335.
Against Indiana they allowed 195 we allowed 128.
Against Nebraska they allowed 431 we allowed 361.
Against Michigan State they allowed 395 we allowed 224.

Against Penn State they allowed 332 we allowed 394. (The one time they had the advantage)

Also over the entire season (11 games) so far Ohio State has more sacks 35 to 29 and more Interceptions 11 to 7.

I understand there is a lot more to good defense than points allowed, yards allowed, sacks and interceptions and looking at Big Ten games only discounts some very bad defense by the Buckeyes to start the season but Minnesota, Oregon and Tulsa were basically an entire season ago and the Minnesota game stats are still included in the above totals just not a common opponent. As the season has played out it just seems to me that too much is being made of their defense being so much better overall than ours. Prediction: We win and probably by a lot! I guess we'll soon find out. Though not soon enough.

Go Bucks!

Buckeye secret weapons, the keys to victory:
3.) A pair of third string, 5 star defensive ends. TSUN has two great defensive ends, but they will get tired in 4Q, since there is not as much depth to rotate in as tOSU, as far as I know. This may have been part of what happened against MSU.
2.) Ruckert is a secret weapon, sparingly used all year. After he catches three touchdowns, it will become apparent to all that he should be guarded. He was saved for this moment.
1.) C J Stroud run game is a secret weapon that will be unleashed for two touchdowns and 150 yards, since Stroud coyly led all to believe that he doesn't get paid enough to run.

He said CJ can struggle when pressured? Other than Tulsa when has CJ ever struggled?

I'm late to this, so others may have responded already - numbers can be deceiving - perhaps it wasn't CJ, but the team struggled against Penn State and Nebraska, leaving a lot of points on the field. The game was still in doubt when he fumbled against Nebraska. He's thrown some potential interceptions, or thrown into double coverages, or rushed a throw, or thrown when he should have pulled and gotten what he could with his legs - looking at Purdue and Sparty it looks like he, or the offense, or Day's play-calling, seems to have corrected these issues - but Penn State and Nebraska were in the game till the end.

Even then our offense struggled to nearly 600 yards in each game lol...

I'm glad those games happened because it provides Coach Day with a blue print to game plan for. Teams have continued to try this plan since PED and for 2 weeks it worked (although not having Wilson was killer for Corn). Then Coach Day figured it out and it's made us even better because we now have answers and IMO it's made us stretch the field horizontally more (which opens up everything vertically).

Exactly. Just like a loss early forces the coaches to make changes. If we didn’t lose to Oregon, we probably would have lost to psu or Nebraska. You want those close games mid season to expose your flaws. The last thing we want is ttun finding the flaws, or someone in the playoffs.

Yes and honestly what else can teams do at this point? The game plans that work vs OSU always ends up being moving the DL around and bringing blitzes from different places. I doubt there's a ton at this point that is very effective.

This is without question the best DL collectively we will play this regular season (although give me the Oregon DTs over TTTUN) but we've played 2 defenses with better secondaries IMO (With Ped being substantially better). As I pointed out we still put up 350 through the air on Ped regardless.

Their DEs worry me but even vs other good defensive ends we've done very well (ped had a good one and Purdue obviously). Maybe they get 2-3 sacks but is that enough? Just don't have them be strip sacks and we will be fine.

I think game is gonna come down to how we run the ball.

Michigan will present multiple fronts, some 4 down, some 3 down….mix man’s and zone, etc. Its a college version of the Ravens.

That said, you can end them if you show dominance in run game off the bat. I don’t think they will allow themselves to get beat deep as much as we’ve seen against other OSU opponents. They’re smart enough to know their best chance to win, is to limit explosive plays and make OSU stay patient. Can we??? We’ll see……I think we see Michigan drop 7-8 guys most of day. I don’t think we will see a ton of blitzes. I think they are going to dare us to run.

Are we OK with 3-5 yards a play? Game will be fun to watch. I’d surmise Day does get a little impatient at times and is overzealous. If I’m Michigan I’m daring him to stay patient and asking him to run the ball.

I hope we hang 100. Fuck Xichigan. Go Bucks.
They have tried that before yac will kill them..Wilson elusive.

After watching tOSU last week destroy my Spartans I just don't see how this game is close. The speed and attacking style offense will be impossible to shut down. And on the defensive side just shut down the run and make them beat you with the pass. SCum can not play any better than the game against MSU offensively. They had 1 bad turnover so I guess a bit better but the point is that the max points is around 28-32 that SCum can score if everything went perfect. And even if that happens I don't see OSU scoring less than 42-50. OSU offense and passing attack has elite level talent and NFL caliber play calling. The only way this game is close is if the SCum dline goes off for like 6 sacks and a couple of strip sacks. Turnovers again are the only way I see this being close. tOSU plays clean and I don't see how they lose. Need to weather the first 10 minutes and that home field boost SCum will get but after that it will settle down and if OSU can get up a couple of TDs you can expect that crowd to become less and less of a factor. Honestly it is the quietest 100K you will ever meet anyway. I really like how tOSU is playing right now. I did not appreciate how good of an offense the Bucks have. The play calling and solid principles used in the scheme are impressive to watch.
