Some thoughts from the outside. And things that kind of make me chuckle now.
1- I guess we should have taken the amount of experience more seriously (upper classmen...ect)
2- can not believe everyone thought a Red-Shirt Freshman QB would be better and better every single week and not have a bad day or an average day
3- forget all of the stuff about QB,RB,WR it has and always has been about the bigs up front
4- For once Hairball might have finally had a solid coaching moment, spending all year grooming a running game and then getting a cold wintery day to use it in the the game
I agree that this year has been an odd one for college football. But I also see a theme which is to say that tOSU, Bama, Clemson all have suffered massive player losses over the last couple of years and even powerhouses have "rebuilding" years if you can call 10-2 rebuilding for both Bama and tOSU (I am confident Georgia wins next week). Which see Georgia and their upper classmen filled roster (12+ BTW).
I also agree with the idea that once tOSU removed their DC from calling plays they were basically coaching a man down for the season on that side of the ball. How long can you go without a coordinator that is fully in charge and scheming and planning day in and day out before it catches up with you. And lets not forget this is the first year in maybe 10-15 years tOSU did not have some freak DE on the defensive line that created havoc all game. SCum had the right players and game plan and focus needed this year which is the first time in a very long time they did. Next year that team is going to be in a true rebuild on defense.
I still wonder if that game is played in a Dome how it goes. Didn't watch much if any of the game as I was at my own tailgate but I am pretty shocked tOSU scored less than 30 and somehow those WR were kept under control. Cold windy day was not ideal for tOSU which should be a red flag as if the team is built right they can kick ass in any conditions. So lots to unpack. But also lots to be impressed with from the Ryan Day era. That was his first B10 loss. Not too shabby. But this is now 100% his program and his team and we will all see how he does it and handles the pressure. Because the questions are coming. The bar is high in Columbus and this season did not meet the mark. So he will have to spend the off season getting things righted. Winning Ain't Easy
