'The Game' to be @ 3:30 EST!

I don't buy the argument that moving The Game to 3:30 is going to give us more West Coast exposure...the West Coast is already used to watching games at 9:00 or 10:00 am. If anything, the 3:30 start time could conincide with a 1:30 kickoff for a Pac Ten game, and thus we lose those viewers. The noon/1:00 pm kickoff times all but guaranteed us a nation-wide audience...now we won't have that.

The "tradition" of the game start is overrated, it's already been changed, what's the big deal with changing it a little more?

I'm glad it's not a night game, I shudder at the thought of a full-day of drunken tailgating with "THE enemy" in town, attempting to do the same.

Do you casually watch lengthy tv programming at 9 am? Ratings are about cornering the market on casual fans. Perhaps there will be more competition (tho if it's The Game, shouldn't it trump the other games?), but there will be a heck of a lot more people watching at 3:30 pm (including everyone who was reeled in by the game at 12).

Maybe you missed my statement about West Coast people being used to watching football at 9:00 and 10:00 am. That's normal for them, so the "casual" West Coast football fan will be watching then just as he/she would at 12:30 pm (3:30 EST).

well the west coast people I know often go out and party on friday nights. I'm sure plenty of west coast football fans tune in early... I'm talking about the fan who might watch the game if its on but won't plan his day around it.

Is there a lot of quality television on at 9 am on the west coast, unlike here in the midwest/east coast? Or are there not as many viewers at that time of day as 3:30? I'm not arguing that no one will watch it at 12, just that there will be more TVs on at 12:30 pm PT.

actually it's based on talking to a few west coast friends of mine... are you arguing that on the west coast the tv ratings are the same at 9/10 am as 12/1 pm?

I'm saying you can't assume there are more West Coast "casual fans" watching TV at noon at 9/10 am, since fans who watch East Coast games are accustomed to the 9/10 am start times. And if you're emphasizing "casual" fans, there would probably be wore watching at around 9 or 10 am than at 12 noon since many would be out eating lunch somewhere.
