Game Thread THE GAME: Ohio State 42, Michigan 7 (Nov. 22)

I do not get why people want to bring up the 1969 game in relevance to this years game........

that 1969 Michigan team was 8-3 and at least SOMEWHAT DECENT

this Michigan is 3-8 and TERRIBLE

was the 1969 Michigan team trying to run a spread read option offense with Steven Threet and Nick Sheridan at QB?

this Michigan team has almost no passing threat and a mediocre running game

and their defense is nothing better than average

check out these statistical rankings for Michigan

hey are

105th in total offense

60th in rushing offense

106th in passing offense

87th in scoring offense

66th in total defense

45th in rushing defense

89th in pass defense

80th in scoring defense

105th in turnover margin

as a team Michigan ranks 110th in Passing Efficiency

Michigan is 112th in 3rd down conversion % (29.6%)

77th in red zone offense

Steven Threet and Nick Sheridan scare absolutely nobody (not even Toledo)

their secondary is bad..........

they turn the ball over...........

they dont convert on 3rd downs.............

there is a VERY good chance that Michigan does not score a TD in this game.......

The only reason i brought up the 69 game was because that was the 1st year alot of Buckeye fans were taking the Michigan OhioState rivaly so lightly and we were beaten in every category. The revelance was that this year is the 1st in a long time that we are so convinced that Ohio State is a lock to win this game because of how bad they are. But you must remember that all records and stats are thrown out the window for this game. But then again you don't go back that far to remember alot of games between Ohio State and Michigan.

If OSU takes care of the ball, they win. (Shut up, jo4h. :p). Make UM drive every single time they have the ball. No short fields. No big plays. Make them execute and they will fuck it up.

coming into that game in 1969 Michigan was on a 4 game winning streak, and in that 4 game streak they outscore their opponents 178-22

this years Michigan team has LOST 6 out of their last 7 coming into the game, including a demoralizing loss this week at home to a Northwestern team who was playing with their 3rd string HB

The extreme confidence has me nervous. If our team walks onto the field thinking its going to be a cakewalk and lets Michigan get some confidence, it could make for a long day. There have been times this year when we have looked awful, and there have been times this year that Michigan has played well. As has already been stated, they have nothing to lose. I certainly hope the team is respecting them more than the fans.

Now, having said that, Tress has an appreciation for the game that the players have always picked up on. I expect us to win, and to win big. But if they manage to keep it close, it could make for a scary ending.

You really think Tressel will let that happen? The coach that knows exactly how many days there are to The Game no matter what day of the year it is? The team that has watched game film of Michigan every week this season?

[devil's advocate]

Tressel can't control all the players, or what they think on Gameday. I didn't think Tressel would let us get fat and happy in 2006 vs. Florida, but it happened.
[/devil's advocate]

...even with all that. It's not going to happen.

FUCK MICHIGAN...the whole fucking state! We're not losing...too many things are in our favor (yes, probably even twice as much than what was in our favor in '69). At the Horseshoe, Jim Tressel, DickRod, worst Michigan team, Senior led defense, an improving offense led by two players that have given Michigan fits (Beanie and a dual-threat Pryor)...I could go on, but the main point is:

FUCK MICHIGAN!

Buckeyes worried about Wolverines

The Associated Press
Published: November 18, 2008

COLUMBUS, Ohio: On paper, it looks too easy.
One team is ranked No. 10 and has a conference title and a prime bowl spot on the line when it goes for its fifth consecutive win over its chief rival, which has an awful record and is winding up a horrible season.
Yet Ohio State (9-2, 6-1) takes nothing for granted when its plays Michigan (3-8, 2-5).
Even the university president is worried.
"That's what makes this particularly dangerous this time around," Dr. E. Gordon Gee said Monday during a visit to coach Jim Tressel's weekly meeting with reporters. "I think that people can assume too much. When it comes to a rivalry, every rule book should be thrown out and everything that you're thinking should be thrown out. This will be a great football game and we will be in for a titanic struggle, I believe."

Ohio State has won the last four meetings, and is a lopsided choice to make it five. World Features Syndicate, provider of the Glantz-Culver Line, established Ohio State as a 19-point favorite ? matching the most points the Buckeyes have ever been favored by in a game against their bitter rivals.
The Buckeyes seem to have so much to play for ? and the Wolverines so little.
Ohio State can grab a share of its fourth straight Big Ten title with a win before a rollicking home crowd Saturday. It also can move into position for a possible spot in a Bowl Championship Series game, possibly even the Rose Bowl if Penn State loses at home to Michigan State on Saturday.
The Wolverines want to end their miserable season on a high note.
"No one gives us a chance, and that's fine," Michigan offensive lineman David Moosman said. "I've got my own teammates, I've got my own guys behind me. We're all going to fight for this win."
Michigan has pulled off major upsets before in the 104-game series.
