Game Thread THE GAME, Nov 29th, High Noon, ABC (It was a nice Time For War while it lasted)

It wasn't a screen. I believe it was a handoff.

Yes, I know. All the linemen released to get downfield for a screen is what I'm saying. I'm guessing Henne audibled out of the screen and changed to a run play. Whatever the reason, he and Hart were running a completely different play from the other nine guys on offense.

I think either the uncovered receiver at the top is coming underneath the blocks for a tunnel screen, or he's sealing the boundry for a swing pass to Hart in the flat.

That was always the knock against Coop is that he didn't get it and therefore couldn't instill the passion in his team to get up for the GAME. In my opinion and I am sure there are others that know better, Coop relied more on kids from out of Ohio, who didn't understand the GAME. On top of that he also lost some greatly talented Ohio kids to ScUM, who really played balls to the wall against us.

I believe that became less of an issue when Tressel built the fence around Ohio and also now with Urban who grew up with the GAME and coached here. No problem with these guys getting these kids fired up for this one. Think of the passion we saw last year from guys like Dontre. Imagine if he were playing Saturday, I get chills thinking about it.

:io:
Thought about this a good deal and talked to Moeller kids who played for Coop - Thrush, Keller, Murphy - there was no let up in preparation, no failure to note the importance of the game, no messing with the traditions or failing to honor them - but through most of the Cooper years the teams were relatively evenly matched except at one position; Quarterback. Michigan consistently put a better QB on the field.

I don't disagree on the QB play at scUM being better those years but Cooper was a big game choke artist and it infected his team.

1985, 1986 & 1987 he coached ASU. His record against Arizona was 0-2-1. The 1986 game featured a then #4 ASU getting their only loss of the year in the big rivalry game at the end of the year.

Coop brought OSU back to the national stage. He should just focus on that and shut his dumb hick pie hole about players needing to make plays in big games. His record of failure spanned a long time and a lot of players for anyone outside the Cooper family to buy that nonsense.

Since 2004 when Tressel put Troy Smith in and opened up the offense this has been the OSU point total at home in The Game:

2004: 37
2006: 42
2008: 42
2010: 37
2012: 26

Average score has been 37-19

I think this scUM defense is susceptible to the pass and just lost their main pass rusher. If the offense can just be patient enough to take the slants and not get stubborn about the deep ball I think they do damage.

If OSU doesn't help out and turn it over I say OSU over 40 - scUM less than 20

If scUM can run the ball consistently and OSU continues to turn it over like they have, watch out. It could be a long day.

LFor me this game comes down to two things... can we stop the big plays and can we stop turning the ball over.

Honestly they have done better of late running the ball. I think Greene going down for the year actually helped them because it put more speed out there. We need to press these guys and stop gardner from running because last year when we blitzed it didn't go so well.

As for the turnovers JT needs to come up calm and just take the easy throws. This year he has at least 2 picks on over throws to wide open guys.

The wide outs need to catch and hang onto the ball though. Number of picks have come from our guys having it deflect off of them and that can't happen.

Bottom line if we make scum earn it then we will be fine but if we play like the last two weeks it'll be a tough one

Personally I expect alot of the same. To me I see something wrong with our scheme up front now and I will be livid this whole game but I wholeheartedly feel we will struggle again to stop the run. I hope they prove me wrong but the run defense has looked off to me since Navy and we have hid it all year because teams have been playing from behind all year. However now that we have been keeping teams in the game since Sparta due to turnovers teams have continued to run.

We will win too close for comfort 38 to 31 and afterwards I will absolutely wreck the defensive thread on here slamming our performance. I'm just as uneasy about our run defense as I was our pass defense last year and that's confusing to me because we just need to pull our safeties in more for support we just refuse to do it.

Take the hint guys we are not the most gap sound team so we need more than 7 in the box. They don't have a gallon this year so man funchess up with grant and drop Bell into the box.

I work with a 65-year old consultant who lives in San Luis Obispo, California. He's not a football fan in any way whatsoever, but he deals with me going on and on about the Buckeyes, especially this time of year. He's a good sport about it. Anyways, he was in town last week to discuss next year's projects and give me an update on some things. I was watching him type on his laptop and noticed his "m" is missing. I asked him about it, and he said about a month ago, he watched his little terrier dog get up from the couch, walk across the room, bite the m key off the keyboard, swallow it, and walk back to the couch to go back to sleep. No joke.

Dog gets it.
