Ohio State and *ichigan have had the most meetings when both teams were ranked in the top 5. Saturday will be the 11th such matchup.
That's one of many reasons why it's THE GAME, the best rivalry in college sports.
I was thinking the same thing. Would love Weber to just truck his ass. That being said, This is the clown I want to suffer most.
I want that douchebag giving up sacks and called for holding every other play. I want him to be the biggest reason his team loses. I want him to know it. I want his teammates to know it. I want every NFL scout to know it. My current brand of HATRED revolves around this PO [Mark May].
I have been absolutely buried in work the entire week and have had zero time to enjoy Beat *ichigan Week properly as I have in the past. The man has beat me down but he cannot prevent me from getting excited about The Game at midnight halfway through the week. My analysis is as follows:
1) Pre-game hype: This is certainly a very exciting game with tons of anticipation. The Game is exciting to me every year but I will note that the excitement levels are not near 2006 levels for me. Undefeated #1 vs. #2 with only two teams going directly to the title is another beast and that may never be matched again. Getting that out of the way, this is about as good as it gets and the entire nation will be watching this game more than usual.
2) Ohio State offense vs. *ichigan defense: Our offense has shown explosive at times and I suspect we have been holding back some looks for this one. Nonetheless, as much as it pains me, their defense is very, very tough. I think our offense will be the best they have faced but I don't see us just blowing them out of the water. I am guessing we put up between 20-28 points total with a lot of help from our defense.
3) *ichigan offense vs. Ohio State defense: The loss of Speight could be huge but I am guessing it is not. Speight is decent but I just can't see much of a dropoff, although scUM will try to use that as a cop out if things go south. I expect them to move the ball some on us and keep the ball away in intervals. They have some good players on the offensive side of the ball and are disciplined. But I do expect a couple key turnovers and for our defense to make stops when they need to. We need to be a little creative and not just expect our front 4 to get to the QB...their OL is too good for that no matter who is at QB. Expect the obligatory good first drive and a score of some sort from their offense, then our defense settles down and gets tough.
4) Key matchups: Mine will be different from the analysts to be sure. The networks will tab Peppers vs. Samuel as the most important. I too am interested when that matchup happens and you have to get the ball to Curtis regardless. You will also see the QBs get compared. For our purposes, I think the biggest matchup is the trenches on both sides. Their OL is pretty tough and you hope our quickness inside compensates for size...we have done a pretty good job there this season but this might be the best OL we have faced so far...I would love to see heavy doses of Bosa to pressure them from different positions. I am also interested to see if their defense can stop JT's legs, as I see lots of misdirection with Weber/Samuel in the read option game. *ichigan has not faced a QB remotely as athletic as JT is and he has given them fits in the past. As a final note, I would love to see Worley or Baker spy Jake Butt at tight end...the QB is a statue, why not put a very athletic LB on him and try to take him out of the game. Butt might be their best offensive weapon and I think we put a lot of resources into shutting him down.
5) Special teams: I hope to God it does not come to this because we have been wildly unpredictable here. But I do have faith in Durbin 45 yards and in. Johnston can boot the ball and change the field when we need it. But I have huge concerns here. We replaced Dontre as PR due to drops but have no track record with Samuel...he is explosive, but I hope he is sure handed there, catching a punt is seriously difficult. We have had issues throughout the special teams unit and I hope it does not come down to this unit.
6) Result: I would feel extra worried about this game if we were on the road. I hate to say this but *ichigan very well might be the better team on a neutral site. But I think having the home field advantage is the trump card at the end of the day after a long and hard fought battle. The good guys take it 27-24 in a stressful game with tons of obscenities directed towards the television on both sides, but with a glorious "W" that takes us into the playoffs as the #2 seed.
THIS. Someone get those kids in the damn water.Need to head to the river or something, not only for tradition but in the words of Don Corleone "I am a superstitious man". Can't NOT cleanse the soul before The Game.

Lol . From Jeff Bartl of Campus Insiders. He picked Ohio State to win but this is comical.
