Game Thread THE GAME: #1 Ohio State 42, #2 Michigan 39 (11/18/06)

Tressel owns Carr

If the record doesnt, show look at the amount of traffic at the "anti-coach" sites (sacktressel.com and sackcarr.com). MI fans dont even like Carr, who has become their John Cooper. But sacktressel.com may get some hits if the bucks somehow manage to not perform Saturday. Whats the line on Satuday anyway?

Although Bo and Woody can watch this one together... some thing just seems right about that.

Amen. Bo deserves more than we could give him tomorrow. All ties to Michigan aside. We wouldn't have this great of a rivalry without him. I'm actually saddened by this news. Not that a Michigan coach has passed to a better place but, more of the fact that college football has lost one of it's great icons. Hahaha on a lighter note however, I'm not so sure of Woody and Bo watching the game together. They'll both be watching, I'm sure. I don't think football heaven is ready for two "football coaching Gods" to watch it together. ( haha wonder if they're going at it right now...)

as I said under the Schembechler thread, I think his passing and the stories that will be flying around will serve as inspiration to BOTH teams... it brings to mind the great rivalry that it is, it reminds us that the "hate" between the programs is based on mutual respect and mutual roots.

It tells all the players on BOTH squads, this is why you play your best in The Game, because it is the most important.

No, I don't remember Woody's passing being that much of an inspiration to the Buckeye players. I think this will be the same way. it adds some reverence to the proceedings, and hopefully some class to everyone's behavior.

But I think BOTH teams will play better because of it, not just TTUN.

Ohio State by 20, still.

HAHAHA!!! only 4 members and 1 post on the Tressel site. It hope it stays that way. I wouldn't even sign up to make a positive post - wouldn't want to be a member of a site named that.

:oh: :osu: :io:

The Biggest Game of My Life

Guys, this is my final post till ~Sunday.

I cannot put into words the amount of energy, pride, and passion I am feeling now. I honestly wish kick-off was now. But, it will only build greater for the all-out explosion tomorrow.

I am going to be as loud as I can be to help this team. I am not going to verbally abuse or promote the abuse of visting scUM fans. We all should appreciate this time, because it is very rare and very unique.

I trust Tressel and Smith. I have so much faith in them that I can't imagine us losing. The passing of Bo is sad, yes. But that doesn't translate to play on the field. Ohio State will be just as charged, if not more, than scUM. We are playing at home remember.

The 'Shoe is gonna be rockin. I'm ready to give it my all.

I will see you all Sunday, hopefully with an ear-to-ear smile and thoughts about the National Championship game.

GO BUCKS!

Open letter to all who have tickets to The Game.

You must scream your head off and make noise!
You must be a factor!
We who can't be there will be with you in spirit.
We too will be screaming our collective heads off!
But, it's up to you at The Game who must be a factor the whole game!
Scream for your team!
Scream for your defense to let them know you are sending them a special energy!
They will hear you and respond!
Scream till your horse!
And scream some more!
Go Bucks!
:oh:

I have a few questions floating around my mind. 1. I wonder if the shoe will be as loud as it would be if not for Bo's death and 2. I wonder if "The Dead Schembechlers" will change their name

1. Of course it will be. Not to take away from Bo's life, but do you really think some drunk 20 year old is going to care either way?

2. No, they won't

They could go back to "The Dropkick Woodys," which they used in their phony battle of the bands show, at least for the remainder of this season until the sensitivity to the name Dead Schembechlers has dulled.

How Much Dirt Will Henne Eat Tomorrow?

As Elusive as Henne has been this year--he has not come up against a defense like the Bucks can dish out--I predict he will eat about a 5 gallon bucket's worth of dirt--as he will see the ground more than the sky--or be looking up at the sky more than his receivers! I don't know, but one of those. I predict at least 4 sacks, 2 picks/ 1 defensive TD and 50yds rushing for Hart--Max! The Buckeyes will contain the "deep threat" and his sidekick Breaston and therefore Michigan will be forced to use an intermediate passing game that will be ineffective against that talented secondary!

I think you're dreaming a bit but it could happen.

Let's see how this plays out. :)

Re: Qstn # 2 - from their web site.....

BO SCHEMBECHLER: OSU'S MOST VALIANT FOE:
The band is crushed to learn of the death of Bo Schembechler. We named this band after Coach Schembechler to honor him as the face of Wolverine football. We have never wished ill will upon him in any way and have always wished him the best. When we learned that Bo had seen our web site and was amused by it we were delighted. We were simply delighted. He said to those with him as he read it, "See, I still matter in Columbus!" That may have been the greatest understatement in football history. We believe that he took the band's name as the compliment that it was meant as and that he was flattered by it. We wish to extend our deepest and most heartfelt sympathies to his family. We are truly sorry for their loss.

Listening to 1460 earlier, one caller made an interesting point.

Lloyd Carr cannot win Saturday.

If scUM wins, the team rallied behind Bo and won one for him.

If Ohio State wins, Lloyd was unable to amp his team up, even after the passing of Bo.

Either way, Bo cannot win.

Ohio State destined to win this one, and the next one, too

Nov. 17, 2006
By Mike Freeman
CBS SportsLine.com National Columnist

At the University of Michigan, an e-mail warning from the school's administration was sent to students planning their travels to Columbus, Ohio, for The Biggest Game in the History of the Known Universe Ever.

The message was basically this: Keep calm or you will get your ass beat by Buckeyes fans.

The warnings sounded like something from a Jon Stewart skit. Try to drive a car with non-Michigan plates was one piece of advice (feel free to borrow my Jersey tags, guys). Stay low-key was another. Stay low-key? What does that mean exactly? Wear a trench coat, sunglasses and fake mustache?

Are these Michigan fans going to a football game?

Or Turjikistan?

Is there going to be someone waiting at the Ohio border, stopping Michigan fans and asking, "Can I see your papers, please?"

Hopefully, no beat-downs will be administered, no police on horseback needed, no sofas burned in the streets.

But I'm afraid those Wolverines fans who do arrive safely are going to be sorely disappointed.

Because Ohio State is not only going to win this game, they aren't going to lose another game this season. That means winning the national championship.

It's a stone, frigid lock. And unlike my man Pete Prisco, I don't get many picks wrong.

(There you go again, Mr. Columnist Man, risking the wrath of yet another college football fan base. The Gators, the Louisville Cardinals, the Buckeyes. Who you gonna anger next? The Connecticut School for the Blind?)

It is true that the sad and unfortunate passing of the legendary Bo Schembechler has changed the tone of this great game. For the moment, there is more appreciation than buzz, more retrospective than frenzy. For the moment.

For the moment, we are not Ohio State or Michigan or college football fans, but Schembechler fans. Even the most ardent Michigan hater, if that person appreciates one ounce of college football history, understands how much Schembechler means to the sport.

Schembechler would have hated all of the dedications and nice words about him. "Just shut up and play," he might say. So they will, and they should.

He would have probably hated these words, too, but if there is such a thing as a dynasty growing under cloak, it's Ohio State. They keep rolling, rolling, rolling, and we almost overlook just how good they are.

They go through the ferocious Big Ten without a blemish and unlike Michigan, which has had a noble season, doing what no one thought it would, the Buckeyes have won all of their games despite having a weighty target on their back.

There was a time when I thought Pete Carroll was building the next great dynasty in college football. It's not Carroll. It's Jim Tressel continuing the dynasty he started several years ago.

The Buckeyes will beat Michigan for two obvious reasons. Quarterback Troy Smith is the most talented player in college football now. He has averaged 300 yards of offense against Michigan, and to stop him, the Wolverines will need their front four to get pressure on him. If they can't, and are forced to blitz, Smith will beat it with either a big run or a deep pass.

The other reason is the Ohio State defense. It is still the most talented in the country despite losing nine starters. There are seven players from last season's team on NFL rosters. Yet they are still tops in the country in the fewest points allowed per game and first in turnover margin.

While I do not like everything Tressel does as a head coach, the fact he has this team in this position is remarkable.

Tressel is already the best college football recruiter of all time. He is now quickly approaching the best college coach of this generation or any other.

Home-field advantage, the better quarterback, the better defense, the better head coach.

It adds up to all Ohio State.

(My e-mail box explodes with ugly notes from Michigan fans in three, two, one ...)

Go ahead, Wolverines, call me a Buckeyes butt-kisser, which would be odd since Ohio State fans think I am a Buckeyes hater and a Florida Gators lover, while the Gators believe I am a Gator hater and Cardinals fans believe I'm just a hater. I'm confused.

I'm none of those things. Just a guy expressing an opinion. So stop whining.

While the redoubtable Dennis Dodd will be in Columbus working hard for The Man, I'll be at home, on my couch, in my underwear and a tank top, eating Pop Tarts and Captain Crunch, hoping Maurice Clarett e-mails me back, while watching the big game.

I'll also be witnessing the beginning of Ohio State's run to capturing another national title.
