After going through the pics I've decided I want a dog when I graduate college the only downfall is since I can remember, I've been deathly afraid of dogs. I doubt it helps that I've been chased by dogs in my neighborhood for years(most notably a huge German Shepherd and Rottweiler from the same house) . I've gotten better..my girlfriend has two dogs and I'm fine with them now. If/when I get a dog sometime what are dogs that are usually well behaved and won't scare the shit out of me?

We'll be adopting a puppy from the shelter here late winter early spring. Here's to hoping I get my Bulldog
Not to pile on, but Bulldogs are cool and shit, but do come with a ton of problems. Just look up Bulldog health problems and you'll find a laundry list of issues. My wife is a vet, and she always talks about the health nigtmare that is Bulldog.

Also, it's very good, IMO, that you're going to a shelter to get your dog, but that makes it extremely unlikely that you'll end up with a bulldog. Bulldogs are usually bred for profit, and a large percentage of bulldog puppies are delivered by C-section, making it very unlikely that you'll find a bulldog puppy anywhere other than a breeder. Also, you have to be very careful with breeders. Bulldogs are notoriously inbred (not an UGA joke) and you could end up paying serious money to buy a fucked up dog, only to end up paying thousands more to fix what's wrong with the animal, or end up paying to have it put to sleep.

Isn't that with any dog?

Why is that?

Does this statement have anything to do with you being a gator fan?
Well firstly, they are expensive to buy, and if you have half a brain you need to get pet insurance on it or you will be paying for thousand dollar surgeries at least once a year. And they never truly mature and will be a chore to deal with as long as you have them.

And the whole they're so cute because they're ugly thing is bullshit. They are fucking ugly.

edit: For instance my sister has one that is well trained that will actually go outside, piss and save some, and piss when she comes back inside.

DON'T DO IT!!!!

I know that it'd be few and far between to get a bulldog pup there. I want one, but I'll probably end up with a lab or retriever in the end. Which I'll take either one of those.

Do some research. many of them have problems costing big bucks to fix. Just do some research.
No I know they have a lot of health issues, and a lot of them breathing. I wasn't sure if you guys were talking about behavioral issues.

Like I said, i really want a bulldog, but in the long run I'm sure I'll end up with a mutt
