The Covelli Center (Official Thread)

HOME FOR THE PANDEMIC DAYS. It would seem that the Buckeyes have a new hardwood home – at least for now.

I, for one, am shocked that Ohio State has decided not to use the empty 19,000-person arena that's cavernous and sterile with people in it.

*whispers* now's your chance to bulldoze it and make a permanent change...

LAST GAME AT COVELLI?

Up until Monday, this game was set to take place at the Schottenstein Center. But it was moved to the Covelli Center – which hosted Sunday's game against UMass Lowell – for cost reasons. Ohio State didn't want to spend the money to switch the floor back and forth between hockey and basketball an extra time, so the basketball team will play away from its typical home arena.

"I'd like to be in our own facility and shoot in our own facility, but clearly it's the right thing to do," Holtmann said. "It'll be there for at least one more game. I don't anticipate more, but if they come back and they ask me and they say it's in the best interest to do that, then I'll consider it, for sure."

Just sayin': It was amonwy decision......

Just being the humble beancounter that I am, with zero fans in the stands, it makes a tad more sense to heat up the Covelli Center than the 'cavernous' Schott. A basketball floor is a basketball floor, the rims are the same 10' anywhere. The background is different certainly, but I'm pretty certain that if the powers that be tell Holtmann that his team is playing in the Covelli, I'm pretty certain that he'll 'consider it' mightily.......go Bucks!

Haven't been in Covelli yet, on the bucket list, but looks like an absolute mid-size arena winner. Super for wrestling, volleyball, and ?. Grew up as a St. John's Arena fan, so when a few more of us die off, they'll raze St John's for- what, parking? Don't much care for the Schott, but it's what we've got. With the recent success of the women's basketball teams (vs the men's), believe that Covelli would be bursting at seams, but do agree with those that say the close confines of the Covelli, might give tOSU's teams a noise advantage. Also believe that tOSU's athletic facilities are overall outstanding, although haven't traveled to enough other campus's (campi?) to compare.
