The Basketball Tournament (Carmen's Crew = 2019 and 2024 Champions)

Koufus was a huge addition to the roster. Savvy vet the MAU had no answer for. Craft showed a lot of rust. Gibbs is still a pit bull at age 40, even if it took him a hot minute to find his rhythm.

Gotta clean up the turnovers though or Men of Mackey will blow them out by 20. Still have no idea how they were an 8 seed. They were very impressive in the earlier game.

Nice crowd today, key word being crowd, at my first event at Covelli. Felt good to be at a live game and see some of the stars of yesteryear.

Took the Bucks some time to get going but it ended well, 77-65.

Players don't get the strategy re: Elam Ending. It might cause Jackson Underdawgs a win over House of Paign today.

Instead of a 5 point lead and the ball, they toss up a shot a 4:05 and now the EE is set with them only having a 2 point lead.

Buford did the same thing last night and Sully told him about it. Bucks were far enough ahead that it didn't matter...this time.

Carmen's Crew was led by 19 points from guard David Lighty, a 16-point, 10-rebound performance from center Kosta Koufos and 14 points and 10 rebounds from guard William Buford.

In case you forgot:

Designed to preserve a more natural end of game finish, the Elam Ending calls for the game clock to be shut off at the first dead ball under four minutes in the fourth quarter or second half. A target score is then established by adding eight points to the leading team’s score. For example, if the score is 80-72, the two teams will play until someone reaches 88. With no game clock in play, trailing teams are allowed to focus on getting stops and buckets, rather than intentionally fouling.

After originally testing the rule out on a part-time basis in 2017, The Basketball Tournament implemented it for all games beginning in 2018. The results were eye-opening. Not only did fans embrace the concept, but it led to a noticeably better end of game experience both on the court and in the stands.

I have always looked forward to these games largely to watch Craft, Diebler and Buford.

Unfortunately, Craft and Diebler do not appear to be meaningful contributors this time around. Time takes its toll.

Diebler looked lost, sadly. Without his 3 bombs there isn't much left. Craft still played some good defense, so there's that.

Jeff Gibbs, 40 years old, 6'2, 245 pounds from Otterbein, continues to contribute. He looks like the guy at the YMCA who the 20-somethings think they're going to abuse, then he posts them up and takes them to school.
