Sorry to sound like an advertisement, but I just got TBDBITL's new CD for this year. It's quite good, and will be playing practically non-stop until the game.

Best song so far is the overture from Candide... very well done. Wish I'd heard it live.

Grrr.... can't the game be here, already??

First post here. Just wanted to say that I'm ecstatic that LSU is playing Ohio State. I'm a student here at LSU, but just transferred from University of Toledo, and I lived in Toledo for the past 4 years so I know what it's like to be around OSU and UM fans. I'm actually headed back to Toledo next week to spend the holiday at home with the family so much trash-talking will occur with the buckeye fans .

Just wanted to add that my favorite song that the Tiger band plays is one known as "neck" and the crowd really gets into it. Here's a short clip of the SECCG where they played it and it came out pretty clear.

If you wanna hear the rest of the song:

Here's the vid of our Homecoming half-time show, which had a patriotic theme going. One of the best I've ever seen.

Should've rethought that whole Titanic theme though...
Yeah, that wasn't the best idea. The thing is... that show got amazing responses from the crowd at the Michigan game that year, and since it was a band favorite, it was voted (the band votes for the bowl show) as what we were going to play.

In years past, the final show was Star Wars (classic for the '97 Rose Bowl... first time I really saw the OSUMB, and the fact that they made the Rebel logo made me really happy), classic big band jazz ('03 Fiesta Bowl), patriotic ('04 Fiesta Bowl), opera ('04 Alamo Bowl... amazing to get a standing-o for Nessun Dorma) and then a latin show ('06 Fiesta Bowl). The "Hollywood Showstoppers" was the most popular show for the band and the fans that year... but for the performance of the team at the game, it would've been fine.

I don't know what show the band's bringing this year. I'll have to ask my old band buddies when I'm in Cbus in a few weeks. Hopefully it's not the Southern Rock show that we did earlier this year... that would be completely inappropriate.

Question for you--does TGBFTL often do drills where the more complex formation changes are marched to drum cadences, rather than songs?

...just struck me as odd, that's all.

Did some digging, found a few TBDBITL halftime shows on youtube... here's one I kinda liked.

Also, I'm partial to this recording of Script. Quality's awful, but it's a nice close shot, and I was at that game (Thanks, BB73), so it's a good memory. Aww, my miserable undergrads (michigan state students, that is) following that skullfucking.... brings a tear of joy to my shrivelled, black heart.

No, that was a once-in-a-decade show. Our shows don't have drum cadences often. That song just wasn't long enough to do the entire drill, so a cadence was added in after the arrangement was sent to us. Lee Greenwood then sang with the band with God Bless the USA.

Ironically, the show we will probably be doing for the NC game will include one of those songs from that Spanish show: Malaga (the one that started slow). Different arrangement, but the same song. It is not the band's favorite show, but it is the one we did the most, so it will be what we do for the game.

Hey, I'm new here. I just discovered this site and thought it was really cool. In my opinion, the greatest traditions with TBDBITL are the Skull Session, Script Ohio, and Carmen Ohio. I love how Senator Tressel and a player speak at the Skull Sessions. I will never forget the scUM game last year where Troy Smith said, "I entered this university as a boy, but now I leave as a man."

hmmmm, Les Miles started doing that also. I'll look into it more but I can't recall if he started that last year or the year before.

The TigerBand (or "The Golden Band from Tigerland"/TGBFTL) comes down a slight hill just before entering Tiger Stadium before games. There's usually a crowd of 5,000-15,000 fans waiting on them.

I really liked the Cadence performed in this one....
Some of those quad tom parts are difficult to play... especially while keeping in line with your band mates...

..

I know you've been around, but welcome to the forum

Old fart. I really hate the direction most bands have taken in the last 30 years, from marching to mincing, from military look to the flaming-gaucho-flamenco-dancer look. One more reason to still love TBDBITL, but any band that plays Tiger Rag as a fight song is all right by me.

The song really fits the school and the mascot, just as Rag Time Cowboy Joe is perfect for the Wyoming Cowboys.

Which brings me to my final thought, I was tired of Rocky Top years, and about hundred weddings, ago. Why Tennessee, which has a great fight song, persists in Rocky Top is beyond my ability to comprehend.

i agree. i would die happy if i didn't have to hear the smooth sounds of latin america every half-time. The marches for LSU salutes was great

Well, It wasn't the sounds I was referring to with "flaming-gaucho-gay- cabalerro look" it was the satin shirt with puffy sleeves, sash topped with a hat Zorro hat with a feather boa... lets see if I can find an example...
