Part II of the All-Tressel era Poll - The big uglies on offense (plus the kickers)...

Part I - The defensive front seven can be found HERE.

All starters listed in the official Ohio State record book are listed. I've also added any awards they received during their playing time and where they were drafted by the NFL.

This poll will cover the offensive line, tight ends & kickers. Over the next couple of days I will post polls covering the the offensive players and back four of the defense.

For this poll vote for the following:
Two Offensive Tackles
Two Offensive Guards
Two Centers
One Tight End
One Kicker

That means you should cast a total of 8 votes.

Some players are listed at multiple positions due to being starters at different spots during their careers.

Players are listed alphabetically by last time.

Players who only spent one year under Coach Tressel are NOT included (so no LeChuck, Tyson Walter, Derek Ross, Jonathon Wells, Darnell Sanders, Jamar Martin, Courtland Bullard or Steve Bellisari). That same criteria will be in placed for the previous eras as well (So no Jeff Uhlenhake or Vince Workman for Coop  ).

Links to the original All-Tressel era polls as well as those for the Earle Bruce & John Cooper eras can be found at:
Master Thread - All (Insert Coach's Name Here) Consensus Team Polls.

The number of interior players who started at tackle under Tressel/Bollman is :shake: worthy.

By my count the only true tackles on the list are Adams, Barton, Boone, Shugarts, Olivea and maybe Douglas (I don't really remember on that one). Everyone else is an interior player forced into playing tackle by circumstances IMO.

I went with Adams and a sober Boone at tackle.

Sims is a lock at guard and I chose Stepanovich in a tough decision over Datish, Browning and Boren.

Mangold at center is pretty easy although we've had many good centers over the years- it's pretty clearly the most consistently good O-line position under Tressel.

Hartsock at TE and Nuuuuuuuuuuuuuge at kicker. For most of 2004 Nuuuuuuuuuuuuge was by far the most popular player on the team.

Somehow I managed to screw up my vote, I meant to vote for Shane Olivea and not Mike Adams. Oh well.

One thing that became apparent while put all this together was the previous staff's odd 'inside out' policy in regards to the OL. Year after year stud interior linemen would get pushed outside...Center to Guard, Guard to Tackle.

Edit: I see 86 was typing up something along the same lines. FWIW Ivan Douglas (all 6'8" of him) was definitely a Tackle (so was Shane AFAIAC).

I missed Olivea my first time through and slipped him in with a quick edit. I probably should have taken him over Adams as well.

I think Boone and Adams have the most talent and potential on that list, but they both had serious flaws (alcoholism/weed and effort).

My recollection of Douglas was that he was maybe a little too big to be an effective tackle along the lines of Rehring. As I said, my recollection isn't clear on that and Douglass actually started at tackle unlike Rehring so I very well could be wrong.

Ivan's health issue held him back and he was probably a step slow for LT but he was a monster on the ride side.

OT: Kirk Barton & Rob Sims
OG: Alex Stepanovich & TJ Downing (Downing is the most underrated OL we ever had under Tressel. His senior year, he was arguably the best OG in the B1G)
C: Nick Mangold & Mike Brewster
TE: Ben Hartsock
K: Nuuuuuuuuuuuuge

I had to go with Cordle at tackle and guard... as a thank you.. for being whatever we needed at a critical time we needed... thank you Jim Cordle

the dude would have played QB if we asked him... very Zach Boren'ish

plus, I'm still getting over Adams and Boone not being what they could have been..
