The Advantages of a High-Powered Offense?

Not often on Bucknuts do I find something worth repeating, but I saw this over there and thought it was hilarious.

DBF = Disgruntled Buckeye Fan

Tress: "You want playcalling?"

DBF: "I think I'm entitled"

Tress: "You want playcalling?"

DBF: "I want a wide-open offense!"

Tress: "You can't handle a wide-open offense!"

Tress: "Son, we play in a conference that has defenses, and those defenses have to be blocked by men with quickness. Who's gonna do it? You? You? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Clarett and you curse the playcalling. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know: that conservative playcalling, while tragic, prevents turnovers. And my playcalling, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, prevents turnovers. You don't want a wide-open offense because, deep down in places you don't talk about at tailgating, you want me on that sideline - you need me on that sideline. We use words like Discipline, Poise, and Decision-Making. We use these words as the backbone of a season spent accomplishing something. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very undefeated season I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "Thank You" and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a clipboard and stand on the sideline. Either way. I don't give a damn what you think you're entitled to."

DBF: "Did you call those Power Iso plays?"
Tress: "I did my job!"

DBF: "Did you call those Power Iso plays?!"

Tress: "YOU'RE G** **** RIGHT I DID!"

That is priceless!

As far as our offense goes...I want balance. Better yet, I want our offense from the Michigan game last year (however people want to label that.)

Let's just face reality.

We are not allowed to have a good offense. That is not Tresselball. Just listen to all the posters that are still enjoying that 2002 NC. :(
If you're not still enjoying the NC, then maybe you've got the problem....

Tressel is doing just fine, and I'm more than willing to give him an extended grace period based on his 2002 NC.

Ryan Hamby is well known for being fond of false starts. Rob Sims has one-upped him in this department. Our WRs have taken five steps back in the dropsies dept. Our line couldn't give Troy enough time to pass against SDSU, which is pretty pathetic. We don't have a backup TE to spell Hamby. Smith caught some nice passes, but we hardly have a good situation at TE in terms of depth.

All of that suggests that we have a lot more problems than us homers want to accept. It may be very possible that conservative offense is better for this team.

I think short throws to our playmakers would be a good idea, but Ginn and others have been dropping those passes.

Those that live in the past, may be the problem

This team has twice the talent that the 02 team had, and just cannot show it. We saw what this offense can do against Michigan last year. So we are a "problem" because that's what we want to see every week? Some of ya make no sense.

People saying "Well Tress is holding back this early in the year". Yikes. So he held back enough that we lost to Texas? That also makes no sense.

I am not calling for tress' head like some of the lunatics. However I am saying that he needs to get his hands off the offense, and get an OC who knows what the hell is going on. Players not executing? Making mistakes? Blocking mistakes? Route Running? QB Vision? It's all coaching fellas.

That is my point. People saying he is "holding back" the offense is what makes no sense. He didnt "hold back" against Texas. He didnt "lose the game". However, you will never convince me that he knows the first thing about coaching an offense, and therefore needs to stop trying such

If I may amend.... Holmes and Gonzo are playing like men posessed. Hall is looking much more focused than at this time last year (Looks to me like he's giving full effort everytime I see him, too). GInn's pushing, I think most of us will agree, but he's still affecting the opposing D.

Let's see how they do this week, now that we're into the thick of the season.

Actually. I think we'll see much better effort and focus from the team as a whole this week. I can't help but think that last week was a product of beang mentaly and emotionally drained from the Texas game, being physically banged up, and from an inability to focus on what was perceived to be an inferior opponent.

There will be no excuses this week, though.

I think the WRs are playing well. I didn't say the WRs have taken five steps back, I was referring to their hands. Gonzo dropped 1 or 2 easy passes, including a first down against Texas. Holmes and Hall dropped one or two. It isn't that they are stinking it up, its that our WRs have dropped catches they always made in the past.

Ginn is the only one who is not pulling his weight at WR.

But as a crew, Texas looked like they had the stud WRs and ours were shakier in terms of dropping passes. Most thought it would be the other way around.

All good points, but you have to add that routes and reads are not being run properly.

true. Overall we are overrated on offense. Lack of execution. Tressel probably had the right formula to beat a fantastic Texas team, but we couldn't catch the winning TD, maintain field position before missing the game winning FG.

We can correct this and live up to our potential, but right now we have a lot to prove.
