FWIW, I'm just floored by the response to the drive. Not just money, but all the emails and PMs, all the suggestions and ideas in regards to what could be wrong, certainly all the legwork to put it together and organize it.
I suppose it sounds sort of lame, lol, but my best friends are on this site. Long after my "real world" friends have long since moved on with their own lives, not really knowing how to deal with my situation, and how it played against them having kids, moving on with their careers, etc., here you guys are, and so many of you just go so far above and beyond, not just in what you do, but how you feel, that it really floors me.
So, thanks. From myself, Jo and Vince, seriously, thanks. It means a lot. I guess one part of this is that we've felt SO isolated. We never really thought about it much, I know it impacted Jo far more than me, but we really felt like we were out on an island all by ourselves. Sort of exiled from the normal world, some sort of severe punishment for who knows what offense.
Anyway, I think the biggest reason I have such a hard time with all of this, is because there are people so much worse off than I am. Which isn't some cheesy echo of a mother's "there are kids in Africa, starving, that would kill for some of what you're not eating!" deal, but just is the simple truth. A lot of people are worse off than I am, but what I've learned to appreciate is that I am so incredibly lucky to have friends like you, all of you, here on BP.
Who knows, I come through this, and maybe we can collectively find ways to help other Buckeyes in need, some sort of philanthropy. Even if I don't, maybe we do that, I don't know.
In any event, I can't stay on long. A couple particularly rough days (seems like that's all I say any more) and I've been trying to sleep as much as possible.
Thanks to everyone who has responded. I will try and get to my growing list of PMs as soon as I can. Jo is working on trying to send mail to each of the contributors. We're just a bit slow, so bear with us.
This isn't the "best" Buckeye fan site because it offers more, or because it affords more individual freedoms, or even because it's a "by us, for us" deal (with apologies to FUBU), it's the "best" fan site because it's a real community, in the sense that even real-world communities don't often meet in the modern era. Don't know if that thought is clear with that wording, but I think it comes through in there somewhere.
We've raised just a hair over $2k. With money coming in from ETS, and hopefully the sale of a few items, that brings us current on some basic essentials, and puts us working towards things that will be due mid and late this month, early next. I can't begin to tell you what a load off my shoulders that is. I suppose even a week ago I felt a bit like I was in the trailing minutes of the first half of a Batman show (the Adam West 'Batman'), where we're strapped to a table, and some ridiculous scythe was swinging down towards us; lower and lower. So, ah, thanks for jumping in on the very next show, with all the *Kapows*, *Kablooies*, *Whams* and *Booms* and averting the seemingly sure disaster that was to follow.
