Thank God for Jimi Hendrix

Just another drug addict. Had some talent but I sure wouldn't want a son to be like him.

I think Hendrix classifies as more than just another drug addict. He's one of the most influential figures in the history of music.

But I wouldn't want my son to be into drugs, so I do agree there..

7 ?New? Jimi Hendrix Songs To Debut On ?Hawaii Five-O?

March 5 will see the release of the next collection of previously unreleased Jimi Hendrix tracks, People, Hell & Angels. But you can get a preview of the album much sooner than that: seven of the songs will be featured in tonight?s (i.e. Sunday's) episode of Hawaii Five-O.

The episode, ?Olelo Ho?opa?I Make? (Hawaiian for ?death sentence?), sees Chin (played by Daniel Dae Kim), kidnapped and dropped in the middle of Halawa Prison dressed as an inmate; he fights for his life to escape before other prisoners recognize him as ?five-o? (a policeman).

The songs featured in the episode are ?Bleeding Heart,? ?Mojo Man,? ?Hey Gypsy Boy,? ?Inside Out,? ?Crash Landing,? ?Hear My Train A Comin?? and ?Somewhere.? You can hear ?Somewhere? right now on CBS.com. Although some of these songs have been released in different forms, the versions on People, Hell & Angels are previously unreleased takes.

I saw him three times in concert, the first time at Veterans Memorial before Woodstock. It was among my first concerts and it remains one of the best I ever saw. The last time I saw him play was with the Band of Gypsies also, I think at Veterans Memorial or possibly Mershon. One wanted to see the raw energy of Woodstock. It wasn't to be. He was so high and "Machine Gun" went on for an hour. He was completely out of sync with the band. There are garage bands that sounded better in Columbus.

For me, there is no better moment in the history of rock 'n roll than this...
