I can agree with Georgia Tech, Colorado, Arizona & Arizona State and South Carolina. Maybe Clemson. What has Iowa ever done to be considered? Maybe I don't follow them enough, but they've never really been a major contender, have they?

Guess it depends on your metrics. Ferentz gets a lot out of the players he recruits. They're a perennial top-25 team, and they've played in a number of BCS bowls. And every other year Ferentz gets a B1G COY award.

They won a BCS bowl following the '09 season. Been to New Year's Day bowls 6 times in the past 10 seasons.

West Virginia had a few good years here and there, but mostly due to one or two good recruiting classes, then they fall off the map for a while.

They've won two BCS bowls recently.

It gets pretty gray after the obvious teams. I'm not disputing Iowa or West Virginia. It's just that they're not obvious entrants, at least not to me. Kansas freakin' won a BCS bowl game in 2007 and they almost always suck.

Iowa finished #8 three years in a row from 2002-04, and was #7 in 2009.

That's 4 top-10 finishes in the last 9 seasons. CFB Data Warehouse ranks them as #21 over the past decade, or 1 spot above a certain team that was #1 for the period from 1975-1999. :wink2:

I'm sorry, but I don't wish the shit we are going through on anyone. We had a thread in the rumor mill a while back about a big-time program about to be exposed. This was before the Tressel/Yahoo story broke. Everybody and their mother's mother was in there hoping for this school or that school to be the one to get hammered next.

Fuck that. It won't help me feel better about the state of our program simply because some other fanbase would be going through the same suffering. It won't help fix the issues that put us in this position in the first place. And I, for one, don't blame the media for focusing its efforts here in Columbus. They thought there would be a story. They were right. Let's get over that part of it; stop being petty; and clean up our side of the street.

Fuck that. This miserable bastard loves company. If OSU is going to burn, everyone should burn.

Texas athletic director DeLoss Dodds, on the lessons taught by Jim Tressel: ?I think every head coach in the nation has read the Ohio State stuff. And we preach this every day: if you know something?s wrong, tell everybody the first day. Tell the president, tell the NCAA, tell everybody the first day. Then, regardless of the size of the problem, it doesn?t get bigger. I tell our staff, ?If you go to bed at night knowing something that you think may be wrong, you?ve started a cover-up.??

That makes a nice soundbite by Dodds, but the reality is that there are violations going on in Austin right now. And in Lincoln, Norman, Eugene, Ann Arbor, Madison, Miami, Baton Rouge, blah blah blah. I see this as a reaction to the comments by Mrs. Colt McCoy, a cover story for the NCAA before they get pokey with their noses. Likely nothing will happen in Austin without hardened fast evidence coming out, so he's got little to worry about.

all it takes is one pissed off Aggie or Sooner, or maybe a pissed off OSU alumni digging around a little bit in Austin...

I have no idea why I didn't use hard-and-fast. Brain cramp, I guess. I also tend to type "won" when I mean "one." Weird how the brain gets its wires crossed sometimes.

That's why I always try to read my posts in between typing and posting. If that wasn't a hardened fast rule for me, I'd make won mistake after another.

I realize it wouldn't help with "one" and "won", but BP could really use a spell check.
