Game Thread Texas at tOSU, Sat. Aug. 30th, 12pm ET, FOX

Still disgusted it's a noon game. Even the Miami home game in 2010 was 3:30pm.

Oh well.

Can't tell if it's the state of how college football is anymore because of the playoffs; or maybe it's the shift away from discussion forums as a medium - but the 2005 thread had 7k replies and was dozens of pages longer by July compared to now. The 2006 thread tops that by quite a bit.

Texas visits for the first time in 20 years. Hoping the crowd at The Shoe' is up to the task so early in the day.
My own feeling is that people were rightfully nervous about 05 and 06 but I dont feel any of that for the game coming up. It's the confidence in the team and coaching obviously but you're right the feeling isn't the same.

I think it’s a great example of the playoff impact.

Back then any loss could kill your season. Now this game (or one like it) is a nice to have, not have to have.

While reading Lindy's reports, appears that Texas's O will be practically new, and tOSU's D will be practically new. That should be an interesting match-up. Certainly Texas will be returning, much as tOSU will, talented players, albeit inexperienced as well. Have to give the edge to Texas in the QB department, mostly because Manning has a year more experience in the college game. Recollect that Manning played against us in the BCS, and had a nice play or two, against our more veteran DL that tOSU will have for this game. Cannot see a runaway for either side, guessing game will hinge on a turnover or two. Regardless, will be an early season battle of heavyweights, and as several pundits have noted, could be a foretelling of another playoff game. Will still be a fun game to watch, and key (for me at least), will be how well tOSU responds to whichever QB is under center. Texas is advantaged, as Manning has been declared the starter already (and don't believe Sarkesian has enough guile to do any switcher-oonie stuff).
