Texas 22, Nebraska 20 (Final)

Nebraska definitely has a chance... this is probably Texas' toughest opponet from now until their eventual Bowl game.

Nebraska's only loss is against USC, Texas' against tOSU. Other than that both teams have been hammering cream puffs. Should be a really exciting game.

... With that said I think Nebraska to cover, but won't win.

Based on Nebraska's less than impressive schedule so far (blowouts against bottom dwellers and I-AA and less than impressive wins against Kansas, Iowa State, and Kansas State) I'm going to go with Texas. Only reason I think it won't be a blowout is because it's at Nebraska. Who knows though, after two years of reading the Texas fans on this board maybe I have an over inflated opinion of them, Texas' schedule is probably crap too other than their loss to us.http://www.huskerpedia.com/games/2006/colo06.html

Nebraska is a good football team playing at home.

This is probably a preview of the Big 12 Title Game.

Bingo

If Nebraska wins, it will be by a small margin which is a very real possibility.

If Texas wins, they'll easily cover the spread.

Nebraska's been waiting for this game!

If Nebraska manages to win and play in the Big 12 championship, then shhot the wad on Texas!

Am I the only one that can't believe how low this number is???

I'm with you big time here, CBF. Nebraska may keep it close for a half, but Texas blows 6.5 out of the water. It seems way too low, regardless of where the game is.

I'm jumping on Texas.

Both side of the Texas line will control the game.
Nebraska could only get 68 yds rushing against USC. I'll take the Texas
D over USC's.

This is an early Christmas present.

Good to know that I am not alone, but it just seems so oddly low...

Have you seen Nebraska play? They have one of the best D-lines in the country with Carriker & co. I don't see Nebraska getting blown out in Lincoln.

I have seen a lot of Big XII football. The teams the cornhuskers' have played only USC & Kansas St have winning records. They have gotten fat off teams like Louisiana Tech 49-10, Nicholls St 56-7 & Troy 56-0. This is a let's see where our team is type of game. Horns' by 14-17 points.

Anticipation for Texas comparable to hype before USC game

By: Ben Gouldsmith

Issue date: 10/20/06 Section: Sports

Forget USC.

That was the message sent this week by Nebraska's players and coaches.

The hype surrounding Saturday's Nebraska-Texas game is reaching proportions similar to the Cornhuskers' contest against Southern California earlier this season.

However, there are a few differences between that 28-10 loss on Sept. 16 and Saturday's 11 a.m. matchup:

- That game was in Los Angeles, and this game is in Lincoln.

- That game was a nonconference game, while this game could have ramifications down the road on qualifying for the Big 12 Conference Championship game.

- That game was against USC, a team that won national titles in 2003 and 2004. This game is against the Longhorns, the defending national champions.

But at least one thing is the same: a win this weekend is another chance for the Huskers to earn some respect in the Big 12 Conference, make a name for themselves on a national stage and make a big jump in the rankings.

NU senior defensive end Jay Moore said the Texas game would be the biggest game in which he has ever played.

"The fact that in just this one year we've played the past two national champions is exciting," Moore said. "When you play this caliber of program, you get to pit yourself against someone who is where you want to be."

According to Nebraska players and coaches, this weekend's contest is even more important than the much-anticipated game against USC earlier in the year because Texas is a conference opponent.

Since even before the season began, the Huskers (6-1, 3-0 Big 12) have made it known that their goal is to win the Big 12 North Division.

"This game is more important than USC," NU senior linebacker Stewart Bradley said. "Any conference game is more important."

After wins over Kansas, Iowa State and Kansas State, 17th-ranked Nebraska is in sole possession of first place in the North Division. Meanwhile, No. 5 Texas (6-1, 3-0) is atop the South Division rankings after wins against Iowa State, Oklahoma and Baylor.

Saturday's tilt gives both teams an opportunity to further separate themselves from other league teams.

One Nebraska player who might have extra incentive Saturday is sophomore I-back Cody Glenn, who is from Rusk, Texas.

"Everybody from my hometown is a Longhorn fan," Glenn said. "I'm getting a lot of calls this week where they want Texas to win, but they want me to have a good game with like 150 yards and two touchdowns.

"I tell them that I hope I get that, too, but I want the win. If I get nothing but the win, I'm happy."

Texas's only loss this season is a 24-7 loss to No. 1 Ohio State on Sept. 9.

Since losing to the Buckeyes, the Longhorns have been on a tear, winning their last five games by an average of 34.2 points. The closest margin was an 18-point win over No. 20 Oklahoma on Oct. 7.

"They're just balanced across the board," NU Coach Bill Callahan said. "This is probably the most complete team we've faced to date."

Considering the goals the Huskers have this season, Glenn said he sees Saturday's game as a must-win.

But he's not worried that the Huskers haven't been getting much national attention. Nebraska has won nine of 10 games since a 40-15 loss at Kansas on Nov. 5, 2005.

"This is a great opportunity," Glenn said. "But with the way we've been playing lately, we're starting to establish ourselves again on top of college football right now."
