Texas 13, Nebraska 12 (final)

Wow, lots of stuff in this thread. A few things:

- Like it or not, Cincy was #3 in the computers and will likely rise to #2. Depending on how far Florida falls, it is possible that they'll pass TCU. The computers had TCU behind Texas, so the human voters would have to "mess with Texas" to put them in, and even then the frogs might not have the computer points.

- Suh is the best player at his position of any player in CFB. Period. What a beast.

- Spiller is a human highlight reel, and along with Inghram and Suh showed up big time for his team this week. Add in Gerhart and you have a great list of names for NYC.

- McCoy and Tebow are done for the JWH.

- If the BCS title game is Texas vs. Bama, it's going to be an awesome game.

- WTF was with Florida today? Yes, Bama was lights out great, but pass drops, bad reads, no running game, shady blocking, bad tackling...wow. Someone just didn't show up. It reminded me of our BCS appearance against the Gators. Karma sucks, huh?

- Whoever said that the Texas clock management made Miles look like Stephen Hawking was dead on. Rep for that. McCoy was a fraction of a second away from going down in history with Chris Webber. That replay would have haunted him for life.

What a day of football! I felt like I got a great cardio workout just sitting in the old la-z-boy. Addressing several points in no particular order; I don't think Bama will steamroll Texas. Yes, the Big 12 had a down year but so did the SEC - apart from each other, who did Fla or Bama play? I think LSU was decent but after them, not much there. This reminds me so much of the scUM - tOSU #2 vs #1 matchup in the '05 season. That's why bowl games are so important at the end of the year. Which brings me to my next point.

I don't get all the - "see, this situation shows how necessary a playoff is" comments. If we were looking at a playoff most of these games today wouldn't mean nearly as much. You'd see teams "saving it" for the playoffs. I don't want to get that argument started here, and the BCS is flawed, but I like the bowl games having meaning as well as all these arrhythmia inducing end of the regular season games.

I think the Heisman will go to Ingram - he had a huge game on the last day for voters to look, his team won (and is undefeated), and his competition had bad days and/or lost on Sat. If I were voting I would vote 1. Suh 2. Ingram 3. Spiller. Gerhart is a beast but I think that Pac ten RBs are discounted (correctly imo) a bit.

How many days until bowl games begin? :(

Nebraska - 12

Texas and the refs - 13

Alabama is going to destroy the Horns.

Bama played their best game of the year... and Texas played one of their worst but still won... the gap will get alot closer before that game is ever played especially if Texas hears how bad they are. I wouldn't throw my house on Bama just yet.

I'm just going to use this thread to comment on the job Bo Pelini has done at Nebraska. They may not have a very good offense, but Nebraska was 1 play away from going to a BCS bowl. This was a team that was dead in the water a few years ago, and they seem to be building something special. They still have a long way to go, and they aren't back yet, but Pelini deserves a lot of credit for returning this team to their defensive roots. A good program at Nebraska is good for college football, and I don't think people should forget about the job Bo Pelini has done, because of the the controversy over how Texas pulled out the win.

What team yesterday could afford to "save it" for the playoffs?

And what about Oklahoma back in 2003? We didn't have a playoff then, and OU sure mailed it in on the last day. Didn't hurt them, though.

What are the odds that 1 second was left at that precise moment?

This is being blown out of proportion as much as the Porter call in Tempe. Unless the clock overlay was incorrect there was clearly one second left when the ball hit the ground.

It is getting so much play for the same reason as the Porter call - everyone thought the game was over so it looks like the ref chose to extend it. In both cases the ref simply chose to enforce the rules.

That was the absolute correct call.

It was painfully obvious that there was a second left. I don't understand the other side to this one. People are pissed that rules were enforced.

Agree completely... I was rooting for Nebraska, and when I saw that play, I immediately thought "no way, there was at least one second left".

You could maybe complain about the horse-collar. Unfortunately my feed was mighty crappy so I couldn't really see it, so I don't know.

I think Nebraska's offensive coordinator is just preppin' his resume for when Bollman retires. He already knows how to play Tresselball.

I don't think Nebraska got shafted at all. The horse collar was legit and the 1 second left was legit. Though Mack Brown and Colt McCoy were about thiiiiiiiiiis close to going down as a punch line.

The only reason a Nebraska fan should complain about the horse-collar is the same reason they would complain about the kick-off out of bounds - on the grounds of stupidity by their own players.
