"Similar national championship histories"? The Vols have 6 ( more than I thought actually ) while TCUN has what, 12* now? I'll give them similar as in being arrogant douchecanoes though.

I thought that from the late 90s until a couple of years ago that Tennessee and tCun had a very similar profile.

These collectives are only going to be but so patient when they're spending 7 figures on some of these recruits. I think that's why you'll see teams who are elite really strategize who they're pursuing. Nico was given $8mil over 3yrs, and these people are expecting at least an SEC title appearance, regardless if he was a RS frosh. You're going to see a pissed off fan base if he doesn't get them there next season, and there's a very good chance he probably won't

Went over to vol nation to see if they had a thread on this article and came across this tidbit from a poster fwiw

Per sources to xxxxxx and confirmed by Will West of The Sports Animal, Iamaleava’s family, not Nico, lobbied for more money following the season than they had previously been promised when he was recruited from California in the Vols’ 2023 class. In the NIL era, contracts are about as helpful as a missed pass block on the field. Sure, they’re there, but they’re just a whiff of what could have been.

One has to wonder if the Vols should have let Iamaleava walk and spent the massive amount of money he’s costing Tennessee on other positions, either to keep current players, like receiver Mike Matthews, who also reportedly asked for a raise, to keep current Vols in their current roles or go get transfers to bolster the roster.

Would you rather have a handful of good players or a pretty good quarterback? That was the quandary, especially since the Vols are currently trying to bring NIL spending in-house and, hopefully, stick to some sort of NIL budget. That has been a challenge.

Per sources, Iamaleava’s family was the driving force behind the forced raise, and he felt caught in the middle. There is absolutely no indication that Iamaleava is anything but a perfect teammate, but agents and parents do what agents and parent do. They look out for their own, even if it is to a fault.

I don't blame the kid with how much he's getting paid, there won't be much sympathy from the fan base either. Former 5star QBs are supposed to put trophies in trophy cases, not be happy with blowing out UTEP. Even if his family didn't ask for more money, his NIL price was going to be a nuisance, and many fans of opposing programs are laughing because we watched an elite QB show up to camps in pajamas and sunglasses to play. Those same fans laughed at him getting blown out at The Shoe
