They sure do. Howard and Bosh were decent, but there just wasn't enough depth (or brute muscle) down low. Hopefully, Greg Oden can become a player who contribute the defense and muscle to the team by the next Olympics.

I actually thought Howard was a little disappointing - he got lost on D and was just not skilled enough to make a difference in a zone. I'm saying this and I LOVE Howard in the NBA. Amare might have been a little better suited for the international game. That being said, I do hope they keep Howard - he's 22, and should definitely be able to improve his all-around game. Bosh was a huge asset.

Nice to see this bumped, as I was just thinking about Team USA the other day when looking at the remaining playoff teams.

Each team is headlined by a player that participated in the Summer Olympics.

Cavs- LBJ
Magic- Howard
Nuggets- 'Melo (okay, maybe Billups is the key guy)
Lakers- Kobe

Doesn't seem like the extra playing time hurt anybody. Also, Dwayne Wade had one of his best seasons yet, after looking good in his time with Team USA.

Deron Williams committs to 2010 WC

Utah Jazz notes: Williams to play for USA - Salt Lake Tribune

Even if the Jazz fail to advance past the first round of the playoffs again this season, Deron Williams already knows he is looking ahead to a shorter summer in 2010.

Williams said Sunday that he has committed to play for USA Basketball at next summer's FIBA world championships in Turkey and already has received a preliminary schedule leading up to the event.

Having played on the gold-medal winning "Redeem Team" at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, Williams wasn't sure of how many of his teammates were similarly committed to return next summer.

But Williams said the world championships were anything but an afterthought following the Olympics.

"Not at all," Williams said. "We want to keep it going.

You don't just get to be in the Olympics just because you're the U.S.A. You've got to go out there and earn your spot. So we have to qualify first, and hopefully we can do that next summer."

It will be the third time in four years that Williams will have played for USA Basketball, including a 2007 qualifying tournament in Las Vegas. Among the rest of the Jazz, Andrei Kirilenko , Mehmet Okur and Kosta Koufos all could play for their respective countries.

"We'll beat up on those guys a little bit," Williams said. "It'll be fun."

Re: The dearth of front court players forced Colangelo and Krzyzewski to consider retaining Anthony Davis, the recent No. 1 overall who recently suffered a sprained ankle and will be unable to practice with the U.S. for at least one week. But USAB wants keep Davis on the roster, not only to potentially bring him off the bench but also to provide him with experience before the 2016 Olympics, when men's basketball is expected to be limited to players who are 23 and younger. Davis will be 23 at the time of those Olympics in Rio de Janeiro

Never heard of this before, was anyone aware of this possible change for 2016? Apparently the other countries are tired of getting thrashed by USA's "NBA All Star Dream Teams".

NBA owners are tired of their "superstars" playing in the Olympics without compensation. They come back tired and have to go right into camp.

Age limit unlikely for 2016 Games

NBA commissioner David Stern's push to see an age limit of 23 for the men's Olympic basketball tournament is losing steam.
At least when it comes to the 2016 Olympics in Brazil.
FIBA chief Patrick Baumann, secretary general of the sport's international governing body, said Saturday: "My feeling is that we will not be proposing a 23 age limit for the 2016 Olympic Games."
"The NBA has come up with the idea to go with under 23 and at the same time to promote younger athletes," Baumann said. "And also to make a (distinction) between the (new) World Cup and the Olympic Games (by making only the World Cup open to NBA players of all ages).
"From FIBA's perspective, we understand the perspective from USA Basketball and the NBA," Baumann continued. "I'm not sure (we) necessarily have the same idea, but we understand the owners' concerns."

USA roster heading into the summer. The roster will be cut to 12 before the FIBA World Cup of Basketball this August/September in Spain.

There are a few big time names that aren't on there, but they may have stated that they will only compete during Olympic times. But Wall and Leonard probably wouldn't fall under that description.

Yeah, the World Cup of Basketball isn't viewed in the same light as the Olympics, so it's used to get younger guys acclimated with the international game so they can play in the Olympics later on.

Awful broken leg. Not Kevin Ware bad, but significant enough. Real shame for him to happen in a scrimmage.
