if they go with seniors.....would clarett have been a captain this year?
If he had no off-field trouble, and remained at the same level, talent-wise, or maybe even got better? Yes.
If he did have off-field trouble, sat out his sophomore year, and came back his Junior year and got in zero trouble and was a non-issue? Maybe.
If he stayed with the team and consistently got in just enough trouble to be a burden, but not enough trouble to get kicked off? Nope.

Could you guys just imaging the smile on VLMarti's face if Mangold gets it?

Man, my face would be in traction for months if my son was elected captain (hell, if I had a face left after watching him play for the Ohio State Buckeyes).

I'm thinking Holmes and Mangold for offense, and Hawk and Salley for defense. (I hate leaving out Carpenter, but it seems like Salley would get the nod)

Since it's usually seniors, and I want to pick something different than everybody else, I'll say Mangold, Salley, and Schlegel. I'm picking Anthony over AJ because Anthony is generally regarded as the leader of the defense according to team members. You don't get elected to be team captain in your sophomore year at the Air Force Academy if you're not a natural born leader.

Bellisari was a two time captain (the first under Cooper, though) so I wouldn't rule out the juniors. My picks are:

O - Holmes and Smith (even with his off the field issues, this team has always viewed Troy as their leader)
D - AJ and either Carp or Salley

I forgot about Schleigal. (Where is my head, today?) I'm changing to pick him on D. I find it hard to not pick Hawk, though, so if I pick 2 guys on D, Hawk's my next pick.

I also find it hard to not pick Mangold on O. Other than Mangold, someone brought up a good point about Smith. I can see Tressel vetoing Smith, though, at least for several games, for being in the doghouse. I still can't see Holmes as a captain this year, though.
