From what I've heard and read about him, it seems like Rory Nichol is a good comparison. Not the fastest Tight Ends around, but they have great hands and they're great blockers.

Not a field stretching TE, but will catch what's thrown to him and isn't a liability blocking.

Any thoughts?

Oops, wrong article posted. The point was that Greg is now our TE. :oh:

DERF Magazine: Aging Greg Oden drafted, announces retirement

Back to Nic, I am curious what people think about his speed. Are you overly concerned? I saw it listed over a 5.0, seems a bit slow to me for big time collefe football. That will improve in college, but is this even accurate?

I would be surprised if he only ran a 5.0. .
Also, that 5.0 - 40 report is from an earlier combine is it not?
Besides which, you have game speed, track speed and small burst speed (the 40 yard dash or shuttle). Some kids have good to great game speed and yet never seem to put up flashy 40 yard dash times.

Either way, does it really matter how fast our 6th OLman runs? lol. Just kidding. I am sure Nic has gotten his speed down and in one of his Rivals highlight reels, it says he is 6'5" 245? That would be nice as well. Good size, very good hands, good blocker... nice ability for yet another typical OSU TE.

I would rather have a TE who can create seperation while still having the strength to be a solid blocker. Nic fits that bill...there is no need to worry about his speed.

Just watched his film again and:

Excellent body control, very good field awareness, adequate speed, great hands, and very heady player. He gets to the open area in a defense and makes the catch. Nic also has a great frame to be a very physical TE, which brings me to my next point that he will need to hit the weights. He looked huge out there but needs to make some strides as far as breaking tackles and being more physical. He could really use his size to create better seperation from his defenders to make up for him not being a burner. As a blocker he is plain nasty. He gets great leverage and keeps his legs pumping, allowing him to drive the defender down the field. He is an all around good TE that can be a good player for us. Rory Nicol is a fair comparison imo.
