TE Nic DiLillo (official thread)

I am cool with the offer. It is clear now that the staff will add another TE to the 08 class. There is no problem going down the line with limited schollies. JT is just letting DiLilo know that he is on our list and should he want to be a Buckeye...our arms are open.

Not sure he meant that he was switched back to LB, just that he was a LB and switched to TE. That's how I read it anyway. We have a plethora of LB and I would be really surprised if BS was switched back due to depth issues at TE.

Doesn't jive with the misconceived notion that the Buckeyes' depth chart at TE is loaded, does it? Nichol & Smith will be seniors & Ballard will be a junior when the '08 class comes in as freshmen.

He is probably one of the best blocking TEs in the state...and I've heard several talent evaluators say that. He plays with a whole lot of nasty (think TJ Downing) and is great at sealing the edge. That is the reason I think some people are selling Nic's receiving skills short...they assume if he is such a good blocker he must not have the ability to stretch the field.

I question his ability to stretch the field cause he is slow... self admittingly from one of his updates...

Great blocker, good hands, smart... but he doesnt have much speed..

Looks like a few posters are in the panic mode...

I like this offer. Even though it doesn't look like we are going to land Nic, he is a fantastic TE with excellent hands and body adjustment and like Wadc said, can seal off the edge with his blocking. In other words, the perfect TE in OSU's system. Not as fast as Koger, and not as a polished blocker as Ruldolph, but those two are really exceptional. Nic is probably a better player than Moore for OSU...

A TE's ability to "stretch" is enhanced tremendously by the speed around him on the edges and the power in the middle...

Honestly, when was the last time an Ohio State tight end stretched the field?

Seems like most catches by the tight end in Ohio State's scheme are from seam routes up the middle or from dump passes if the wide receivers are covered.

On Rory Nicol's TD catch from Teddy Ginn last year :).

Sorry to leave everyone hanging, and honestly I wasn't trying to start any rumors. I thought it was pretty common knowledge about B.Smith and A.Miller.

has the staff gone cold on miller?

I wouldn't put it that way. He just isn't where they would want him to be yet....and again that was the case at the end of the the regular season. Andy may have progressed a huge amount, however, with the way the staff seems intent on finding a great TE this year, they most likely are covering there bases in case Andy ends up switching positions.

DiLillio is easily one of the top 3 TE's in the state and most likely top 5 in the midwest.

Wow, that's a pretty big statement this year. That means you think he's easily better than Rudolph, Moore or Koger. If he's that much better than either of those three I'd love to get him.

Well, I just checked on Rivals(to see what they think) after I read your post...and he is top 4 in Ohio and top 6 in the midwest, but after seeing his video, I believe he will end up a better TE than Koger, and honestly, I am not sure either Koger or Moore will stick at TE. Moore is 6'6" 250 already and Koger has been looked at on both sides of the ball.

Still hoping Nic changes his mind.....like I did ala Joe Thomas

I love this offer...I don't know why people are upset over it? Moore, Rudolph, and Koger got more of the early publicity, but DeLillo was always on the staffs radar. I've watched his film and he is a very good athlete and would be a more than welcome addition to this class. Btw dozer, unless Moore has put on about 30-35 pounds since last year, he is likely more around the 225-230 mark.
