Funny thing is, he still can go to OSU, catch a marginal amount of balls, and because NFL coaches know of the elite talent at OSU could still pick up Rickert if he's good enough. Look at Heurman and Vannett, both had underwhelming statistics at OSU but went high enough in their drafts to make NFL rosters and I believe both are in 2 deeps on their respective rosters. Both were prepared to block AND catch in NFL systemsMeatchicken will be the main competition for Ruckert. Heck, Butts had a great career there, and unless tOSU actually throws to Baugh, I'd go to the School up North too. If I wanted to showcase catching ability as well as blocking. This year, mayhaps we make our TE an actual option over the middle, in the flat, etc. and that would show all the doubters that tOSU indeed uses their tight end as a receiver (which is sexy), rather than merely as another blocking lineman. Throw the ball, and GO BUCKS!
The NFL would agree with you. Heuerman was selected 92nd (though he put up some numbers in college) and Vannett was selected 94th after basically blocking as a starter. Both third rounders. Butt with all of his hype and production was 145 in round 5. If go with OSU. The NFL scouts are trying to tell us something.Funny thing is, he still can go to OSU, catch a marginal amount of balls, and because NFL coaches know of the elite talent at OSU could still pick up Rickert if he's good enough. Butt had a pretty bad injury, if it wasn't for that he was probably going in the 2nd round at worst. The NFL would agree with you.
