Granted it was against TCU, but he looked sharp. He looked like OSU fans thought he would look like in the Scarlet & Gray.

Thurman hauled in four receptions for 94 receiving yards in his Tar Heels debut, a Week 0 win over TCU in Dublin, Ireland, that put his name on the map in the ACC if it wasn’t already.

Definitely. OSU's offense never fit him. He was never going to be a blocking TE, and he needed an offense that would feature him. OSU will never have an offense where the TE is a consistent target. They will primarily block and catch the occasional first down or TE or something in traffic. But a big game for an OSU TE is 3-4 catches in a game. And thats not consistent, that may be the most he has in 4-5gms.
He'll be fun to watch in an offense that utilizes him a lot in the passing game.

Yeah, Ohio State definitely likes "blocking TEs" that can catch the ball. He was here for 3 years waiting his turn and Ohio State kept bringing in transfers (like Will Kacmarek and then Max Klare) that leap frogged him on the depth chart. Apparently blocking wasn't his forte; if it was he probably would (at least) have been used more on specular teams.

Something tells me that Coach Smith knows that he has a myriad of weapons at OSU that he didn’t have in Pittsburgh. As a Steelers fan I can attest that the passing game for the Steelers consisted of DK, Jaylen and any TE. There wasn’t a competent WR2, so not sure who else you expected him to call plays to.
And it’s ironic that Day hired a former NFL HC who fans weren’t happy with the hire in the offseason for the 2nd straight year. I can vividly recall many OSU fans complaining about the Patricia hire and holding his failures in Detroit against him and thinking OSU’s defense would regress….
Smith will be fine, hes not scheming against Vangio and Spagnuolo
