Commitment
Jake Stoneburner had big news: He was ready to commit to the Ohio State football recruiting class of 2008. But he had to sit on the fact for a week, he said, until OSU coach Jim Tressel returned from a short vacation.
Stoneburner made it known to Tressel yesterday. The receiver from Dublin Coffman became the fifth member of the class, and the second from Coffman, joining tackle Mike Adams.
"Mike and I are pretty good friends, but his decision (made earlier this month) had nothing to do with mine," Stoneburner said. "I've always been a Buckeye."
Though sometimes listed as a tight end, the 6-foot-5, 225-pound Stoneburner said he will go to OSU as a wide receiver. Ohio Football Recruiting News publisher Bill Kurelic ranks Stoneburner No. 4 overall in the state and said his versatility -- enough speed (4.55-second 40) to play wideout, enough size to play tight end -- set him apart.
"I'm real happy with the decision," Stoneburner said. "Now I can focus on our upcoming season and on winning state."
