TE Jake Stoneburner (Official Thread)

JACKSONVILLE --

Just 48 hours before Ohio State and Florida line up to beat on each other in the Gator Bowl, the coaches for the Buckeyes and the Gators revealed that there has already been a physical toll on both camps.
The plot has thickened, since both teams could be without a key starter due to injury.
Ohio State coach Luke Fickell revealed that junior tight end Jake Stoneburner needed minor knee surgery in the days following the season-ending Michigan game and has been slow to recover, so he will likely be used in no more than spot duty in Monday's bowl.
"I'm kind of curious myself," Fickell said Saturday about just what capacity Stoneburner might fill in the bowl game. Stoneburner (6-5, 245) led Ohio State with 14 receptions this season and took half of them for touchdowns. He has played in 36 games in his career, starting 24 times.
"I don't know how available he'll be," Fickell said. "We've still got a day and a half to go to see if he can get into a situation where he can play. He obviously won't be able to play a ton because he's not in the shape to get back in there, but we're still hoping maybe he's got some situational things we can do with him."

He'll be a good diversion for the Florida D. He could make a couple of catches - probably for TDs if he goes true to form. :osu:

Boy it would be in his best interest too... He hasn't done wonder (yet) to date, and we know how much Urban likes to get his TE's involved.

Go to the NFL and be a 4-7th rounder or stay and have a shot at the top 2 rounds... I mean I'm just sayin'

Yea I agree. I mean sometimes we (myself included) want players to stay for our own interests. But imo, this is as clear a case as coming back only being able to help himself for HIS own interest.

Given his abilities and seeing what a Tight End who is similar in statue and speed is doing in NE, honestly if I were him I'd get out while the getting is good if the projections are right.

He's shown he can be a threat even in a super-limited offense like Ohio State had this year.

Gotta think he goes wayyy higher if he stays. Hinton as TE coach (not sure how long he was at ND, but they show TE's some major love there...I know he was a RB coach there, but still), Herman as OC (throws to the TE nonstop), and Meyer as head coach (salivating at having Stoney and always throws to the TE). No way we don't throw to him a ton next season...it will be a true showcase of his skills to the NFL.

Plain and simple Meyer and co. will get the ball to their top playmakers. Meyer has already said that he sees Stoney as a huge part of the offense next year. He is from Dublin which means that his faimly is not in a dire need of $. Putting this together, I don't see a reason he goes pro.

I love how someone being from a specific suburb means they're golden.

I live in Upper Arlington and can vouch, I'm pretty much living paycheck to paycheck at the moment.

Not my point. Regardless he will stay and will play a huge role on the team next year.

Very excited to see him utilized to his potential.

Dare I say future Mackey winner?

FWIW here are the average stats for a Mackey Winner since its' inception in 2000.

56.5 Rec 703.9 Yards 12.65 Avg 5.58 TD's

Just sayin...

Understand.

And I agree about Stoneburner. I hope he stays to really give NFL scouts a highlight reel.

Per BP guidelines, posts with player tweets have been deleted.

Urban's new policy of players not being allowed to send tweets will make this easier.

Jake has indicated that he'll be back in 2012.
