TE Jake Stoneburner (Official Thread)

I attend the Coffman Hilliard game. Stoney caught about every ball behind the line of scrimmage. His ability to gain yards after the ball is in his hands is amazing for a kid who is 6'5 225 lbs. Can not wait for Coach Hazell to get a hold of him and OSU throw the ball down field to a big athletic target.

Forgive me but I just don't see the Boston comparison...I still see a Patrick Turner/David Ausberry type WR when I see Jake.
Jake is a mid-4.4 guy, Turner and Ausberry are both 4.6 guys. I would say Jake is similar in measureables, but quite a bit faster than those two.

IMO - size, speed and athletism are very similar to Boston. Their specific running style maybe totally different. But you have two players in different era's that both run/ran sub 4.5 in high school. Both are 220lbs or more and are 6'4" or taller. I guess I look at OSU has not had a big thick athletic receiver since Boston. So you immediately try to compare. Probably not fair to Stoneburner to put such a high comparison on him. He is and will be a fantastic addition to the OSU receiving group.

Thanks for the correction on size. I always thought Boston was 6'4". I am looking at the physical size they both have and the advantage it gives the O coordinator. Stoneburner will be a mismatch.

It's okay because my dad was saying the same thing about Stoney being like Boston but the only similarity I see is the mismatch you mentioned...he was thinking Boston was taller too. I really think Calvin Johnson was the best comparison I have heard, though I think we use him like Beckum.

The closest 2 overall measurables of those leaving in last years draft are to Dwanye Bowe (LSU) 6'2" 221 4.49-.51 40 and Dwayne Jarrett USC 6'4" 219 4.57-.62 40. I think he is somewhat between the 2 because Bowe looks to be faster and Jarrett a little slower. But comparing him to Johnson I don't think is accurate because he is in a league by himself running 4.33 40 at 6'4" 235. Only time will tell what happens to Stoneburner as we have seen a few position changes on this years team and it also depends on how his size and speed fluxtuate.
