sadly, they were in the kitchen, but it was one of those open rooms where the kitchen and family room are basically one giant room

Actually I think it showed Ballard as he is. He isn't a quitter and despite being in pain, he was trying to prove to himself and the coaches his knee was ok. That's the kind of effort you want from a player like Jake. He had no desire to come out of that game.
