TE Cade Stover (Houston Texans)

I appreciate Stover showing some fire on the sidelines, but he was whiffing on blocks and letting guys blow up run plays just as badly as anyone on the oline (outside of maybe Vimahi)… just like he has all season.

I appreciate that he was one of the most effective pass-catching TEs Ohio State has ever had, but I’m hopeful the position can be WAY more effective and well-rounded next season, which means guys who can actually block.

I dunno man - it feels like when we have run blocking TEs, the fans beg for a pass catcher. We get a pass catcher, they beg for a blocker. If you want to run 12 personnel you can but with our WRs that isn't the way to go.

I also think on multiple plays Cade was to chip and release as a safety since the OL was getting destroyed, but I refuse to rewatch any of that crap.

Hausmann and Farrell circa 2019 are the dream 12 personnel TEs in my opinion (and probably Day’s, as well). But if we want to throw them the ball a little more that’s fine with me.

I hear ya, but the problem is then you're putting someone like that on the field over who....Jeremiah Smith? Brandon Inniss? Carnell Tate? One of them has to come off. If our OL was cohesive and played to the standard they are capable, I don't think we have this concern. With Thurman and Gee Scott remaining, I don't see it changing either (unless a portal pickup occurs).

Stover will now have the opportunity to catch passes from Stroud, who he described as one of his closest friends back in 2022 when they were teammates at Ohio State.

“It would mean so much to go back with C.J.,” Stover said at the combine. “We were captains together (at Ohio State) two years ago. He was from Rancho Cucamonga, California, I'm from Mansfield, Ohio, polar opposite sides of the world, but I couldn't tell you how much respect and how close I really was with that guy, just for his pure knack of wanting to win and my pure knack of wanting to win. I would love nothing more than to go reunite with him.”

Stover joins a tight end unit led by Dalton Schultz and will likely compete with Brevin Jordan to be the Texans’ No. 2 tight end in 2024.
