Tressel. No question. He understood the rivalry and almost always had masterful game plans that broke season-long tendencies

I always admired Tressels teams…. You knew that on defense and special teams we weren’t going to beat ourselves. You never knew if the offense was going to go for 42 or 13 but there was enough there to keep you hopeful lol

OK. So if I have one coach for the whole season leading up to Michigan, it's Tressel. No doubt

If I just have them for one game, it's Urban.

Urban would get a more immediate reaction from players, because if you screw up he's going to rip into you.

But I always felt like Tressel built relationships with his guys where they were devastated to let him down. He would just have to give them a look and it would say more than all the screaming in the world could.

Urban is the dad with the belt. Tressel is "I'm not mad, just disappointed." personified.

Also, maybe I forgot aome abysmal years, but I feel like neither Urban or Tressel would have let tackling and special teams reach some of the lows that we've reached during Day's reign so far.

There's some points where you know a delivery guy was outside of Tressel's house asking himself "Who the hell buys a new TV every single week?"

There hasn't been a worse-tackling defense than the 2018 version. It's not close either.

Tackling as an art form has completely fallen off at all levels of football, it's not just a Day thing.

Completely agree! And from a player safety point of view that’s a good thing. Targeting and other rule changes were designed to reduce injuries from tackling with the head first (which is probably the way you were taught back in the good tackling days).

But how about we all jump out of this coach bashing rabbit hole and get back to the thread topic? I hear it might be cold in Columbus on Saturday.

I was taught to tackle with my head up to the front side of the ball carrier and to wrap. I personally was never taught to tackle with my head.

The two biggest things I see in this era are players tend to tackle higher and don't wrap up at all....the hit stick era.
