FWIW, Mechanicsburg, Bexley, and Sunbury are all worse.

Maybe... the thought of having to pay extra taxes because you don't work in the city was foreign to me back then... even more curious is the fact the Powell Police department wanted to charge me for fingerprints (for a new job) when the sign said "free" for Powell Residents. I found out I lived in Powell, however only those in the small city of Powell (their downtown area) received that service for free... never mind the fact I paid the same taxes they did... :(

btw I have not lived in Powell for almost five years... no clue what it is like up there now...

It's that time again. Have a quick question. We didn't move this year, and the wife and I have our W2's, but I coached HS lacrosse last year. I filled out a W9 before the season started, and the sent me a 1099 in January. Taxes were not taken out from coaching. When using h&r or turbotax do I just add that amount I got paid as addt'l income, or add it onto our w-2's?

Don't forget to deduct any expenses you incurred from coaching LAX. Clothing, shoes, mileage, any clinics you may have attended. That can help offset the money you earned.

Typically, they aren't complete bastards about this kind of stuff. Although you should always keep contemporaneous records, you should be able to pretty easily re-create the mileage log of your various trips. That will usually suffice in an audit. And the mileage rate will almost always be better than the actual expenses.

Not tax advice. I don't know your situation. Everyone's tax situation is different. Consult your tax professional. Blah, blah, blah......Don't sue me when the IRS comes after you and shoots your puppy in the head execution-style.

Used a tax professional for the first time in about 10 years this year. Mostly because of a couple of situations I wasn't sure how to handle. Really glad I did and was surprised that the cost was very reasonable. I'm thinking that I will probably continue to do this moving forward.

Aren't teachers/coaches capped out at $250 max?
so that's almost a given..
I don't know any teachers or coaches who don't use $250 out of their own pockets a year

and I highly suspect IRS is not coming after an instructor over $250
it'd cost the IRS a heckuva lot more to 'audit' vs the tax liability which is probably $75 max

They are for the above the line adjustment, but can still deduct the excess on Schedule A to the extent it exceeds 2% of their AGI.
