Worked in the golf business for 15 years - it's amazing how tight some people are - especially ones with money. We used to say they were tighter than bark on a tree.
some guys would say they were walking the course. they would walk down the first and ninth fairways and ride every hole in between.
Many, many golfers play with range balls - especially on water holes.
i knew one guy in Florida who, if he got tipped with change (in the '80s), would just throw the change across the parking lot, right in front of the tipper, and walk away.
I've given a free sleeve of balls to a woman and she complained because they were a bonus pack sleeve "they didn't cost you anything".
I had to give her a sleeve with a different number on them.
i've ridden with guys who drove through 4 different gas stations because each one was 1 cent per gallon cheaper than the previous one.
i spent a whole summer when i was a kid eating garlic toast in between golf rounds, because it was free. garlic toast and water!
you would always see the old guys with the pair of polyester golf slacks that were 25 years old. and then they would pull out the ol' ball retriever and spend 15 minutes trying to fish out the ball they just hit into a pond.
I know one guy who, when AMEX had a deal where they would replace anything lost or stolen that you had bought with their card, reported his dozen of balls he payed for with his card as lost - he lost them one by one on the golf course - and they reimbursed him!

I lived in NYC during the blackout, almost all of us lived in the city, but the guy living with our female friend had a huge house in Jersey where they had power, the next day he allowed us to come out to his place until the power came back on. We went out there and his girlfriend grilled up some burgers he had in the freezer and some vegtables. He comes in an announces that all this food will only cost us $20 each! I'm guessing he was making a 300% profit there. Not to mention, i think it would have been a nice gesture to help out your fellow man in an emergency.
What makes this even worse is he is a short loud private school kid who took over his parents company and openly tells everyone he grossed over $5M last year. He bugged his girlfriend to make sure to collect from all of her friends, even she was complaining about his cheapness.
Fortunately she dumped his ass a few months later.
