Sources: Syracuse targeting Georgia assistant Fran Brown

Syracuse is targeting Georgia defensive assistant Fran Brown for its head-coaching vacancy, sources told ESPN on Monday night, confirming a report.

Brown, 41, has coached Georgia's defensive backs the past two seasons after holding similar roles at Rutgers, Temple and Baylor. The New Jersey native has extensive ties to the Northeast and has recruited the region throughout his career. Brown, who twice served as a Temple assistant, was a top candidate for the school's head-coaching vacancy in late 2021. Georgia is set to face Alabama on Saturday in the SEC championship game.

Syracuse fired Dino Babers on Nov. 19 after eight seasons with the school. Tight ends coach Nunzio Campanile is serving as the team's interim coach for its upcoming bowl appearance.

Notre Dame CB Clarence Lewis transferring to Syracuse

Notre Dame cornerback Clarence Lewis announced he is transferring to Syracuse in another portal addition for the Orange.

Lewis played in all 13 games (starting two) this past season for the Fighting Irish and had one interception and nine tackles. He played in 13 games (starting two) in his junior season in 2022 as well, and had 29 total tackles.

The 6-foot-3, 200-pound defensive back is joining Syracuse as a grad transfer with one year of eligibility remaining.

New Syracuse coach Fran Brown and his staff have made the transfer portal an emphasis this offseason, adding in Texas A&M defensive end Fadil Diggs, LSU defensive back Duce Chestnut, Alabama defensive lineman Isaiah Hastings, New Mexico State defensive lineman Tank Wilson and Ohio State quarterback Kyle McCord, among others.

It's probably not against the rules bc if it was, Michigan would be doing it.
TBH I strongly believe that the CUNTS’ recent Joe Moore awards are directly attributable to PEDs

I do not think they are anywhere near alone on this particular score, which is why I haven’t mentioned it before. Their in-person scouting that included electronic recording (video) was something that was unique to the CUNTS in the entire history of the sport. It was an egregious, unprecedented level of cheating worthy of the death penalty IMO. OTOH, I’m not even sure it’s possible to win a Joe Moore award without PED use

Syracuse's coach says Ohio State receivers are the gold standard

Syracuse coach Fran Brown’s recent praise for Ohio State’s Jeremiah Smith highlights the Buckeyes’ unrivaled wide receiver unit, coached by Brian Hartline, as the pinnacle of college football excellence.

While discussing the current NIL landscape, Brown singled out Ohio State’s wide receivers and their value. It seems implied that he was speaking about Jeremiah Smith as the benchmark for elite wide receivers, insinuating that only someone of Smith’s caliber could command a $2 million valuation in college football. Signifying what many Ohio State fans already know, that Ohio State’s wide receiver unit, coached by Brian Hartline, is the envy of college football.

"You gonna make $2 million at wide receiver? That’s the homie at Ohio State. Ain’t nobody else making that money. I’m not giving no wide receiver $2 million in college."
Fran Brown, Syracuse Head Football Coach

There is no doubt that under Hartline’s guidance, Ohio State has established itself as "Wide Receiver U," not only for producing NFL-ready talent year after year, but also for recruiting and developing arguably the top wide receiver room in the nation every year since 2019.

With freshman phenom Jeremiah Smith now entering his sophomore year, that doesn't seem to be changing anytime soon. Smith is the consensus best player in college football entering the 2025 season. His performance last season, not only in the regular season but also in the playoffs, has obviously caught Brown’s attention and is a summary of how others in college football view Ohio State's gold standard wide receiver room.
