Anyone see Bear jump into a crevass in the French Alps to show that his rigged rope with knots would indeed save you from falling to your death? He tied knots into his parachute string every 2 or 3 feet, then tied his backpack(for weight) to the very end of the string. He tied the opposite end to his body, then walked up the mountain, dragging the string and backpack behind him. The idea was that if you fell in a crevass, your weight would pull the knots into the snow and keep you from plunging to your death. He then purposely jumped in to show how it works. Amazing.

Later in the same episode, he jumped through the ice to show how to get out. After he was out, he took off all his clothes and rubbed snow all over his body because he said it will absorb the water off your skin. I think the camera man started wanking after that.

Actually, he did both. He did the snow thing in the Alps (which preceded him doing naked pushups) and did the glacier water/geothermal pool thing in Iceland.

The man is crazy, and it's much more entertaining to watch somebody do this kind of stuff because they're crazy and badass than it is to watch somebody do it for 15 minutes of fame on a stupid reality show.

Survivorman is a great show and a bit more realistic, the dude whines a lot though.

completely agree. if i were stranded in the middle of nowhere and had to follow les or bear. it would be a pretty easy choice. im pretty sure id be dead in the first hour if i were with bear. but he certainly knows his stuff and his show is a lot more entertaining.

bear is kinda like the crocodile hunter of the survival community. always parachutes into places. always has to repel down something and even in a desert, the man not only finds a waterfall. but MUST climb down it. some of the stuff he does and the way he negotiates terrain like alligator infested waterways, waterfalls, rock faces, etc... i know his cameramen are like, "uh... no you go ahead, we'll meet up with you in an hour or so. were going down a sane way, but you knock yourself out bucko".

In the outback episode, Bear mentioned, after he caught the snake, that the killing of indigenous species is prohibited by law except in the case of "need for survival". He then proceeded to kill and eat the snake. How, exactly, does making a television show about surviving the wild qualify as a "need for survival" situation?

i don't think the snake he killed was a protected species. im pretty sure he was talking about a different animal. he's caught and released protected species on other episodes.

Survival show faces 'fake' claim

Channel 4 calls Grylls "a cross between Ray Mears and Rambo"
Channel 4 is to investigate a claim that it misled viewers in a survival series, in the latest allegation of reality being manipulated on a TV show.
Born Survivor featured British adventurer Bear Grylls dealing with "perilous situations" in the wild.

But a crew member told the Sunday Times some nights were spent in hotels.
