Survivor NFL-Cowboys edition

The Columbus Dispatch - News

DALLAS (AP) -- The first time Michael Irvin watched "American Idol," he loved the concept of giving undiscovered singers the chance to become stars. Now Irvin is doing the same for NFL wannabes.
The Hall of Fame receiver is launching a reality TV show in which 12 "football neophytes" will compete for an impressive grand prize: a spot on the Dallas Cowboys' training camp roster.
"I don't know if you can walk upon any group of guys that wouldn't say they dreamed of playing in the NFL when they were playing in their front yard," Irvin told The Associated Press on Thursday. "So we're going to take a group of guys from their front yard, dwindle them to one and give that guy the opportunity of a lifetime."
The Cowboys confirmed that one of their 80 roster spots will go to the show's winner. The NFL did not immediately return a call.
The show, which doesn't yet have a title, will air this spring on Spike. It is being produced by the same company that's behind "The Biggest Loser" and many other reality TV hits.

a buddy of mine, and OSU grad, is doing the casting for this show. and will actually be in CBus next week casting.

they are looking for WR/CBs basically. guys who have a descent story but never made it bigtime, and never got a shot in the NFL.

I suggested he try to reach out to Darius Hiley. is he still in Cbus?

they need to look up Dishonn Platt.....kid was amazing in high school, went to FSU, and never had grades to play. I guess he works construction now, but he was considered one of the best Florida High School receivers of all time. I'm sure there are a million stories like that....

No joke.....Maurice Clarett isn't a bad idea......the ratings would get a major boost, and he'd be guaranteed a pre-season roster spot if he wins. I'm not sure if he's up anytime soon, but it'd be good TV.
I think he will be set free sometime in the next year? I agree, MoC may have a shot to go pro if he decides to do so..

Darius Hiley was interviewed for the show and kicked ass! they loved him. Humble guy, stayed in great shape, great story. has a great shot of making the show, but they are going to many other cities looking for candidates.

there is another buckeye they are interviewing... was a 6th string wr in 2004, white dude, and currently in law school...Derek Harden?

some good nuggets from interviews with Darius

-- still runs a 4.4
-- still works out at the whac, and tight with Tress
-- when asked about who was the best out of the G-ville talent he played with and tobe honest (Teddy, Donte, Troy etc.) he said he was.
-- said when he was practicing with the team, he'd be guarding Gamble man-to-man and Gamble could never get open
-- the references he provided were Tress, Ginn Jr. and Sr., Santonio Holmes, Bobby carpenter. (not many people would be a better reference than Tress)

I thought it was neat that He and Tress were still tight, and Tress has been trying to help him out with jobs etc. I mean the guy was a recruit 5-6 years ago and never even played for the Bucks and still Tress is going to bat for him and keeping in touch with him etc.

they are interested in "cross-over" candidates if anyone can think of one? i.e. David Lighty would be a great candidate if he no longer had eligibility and wasn't in league

FYI-

Devon Lyons, & Dishon Platt were alternates for the show.

Darius Hiley Flew out to LA for the combine but pulled a stomach muscle the night before and didn't compete to be on show....Superman could have played with any of these guys.
