Support your hometown team...

The NBA is painful to watch because shooting is a lost art. Who are the best shooters in the league? Guys like Peja Stojakovich and Dirk Nowitski. Is it any coincidence that they are foreign? Dominique Wilkins could shoot. Jordan could shoot. Even Drexler had a decent jump shot. The last full NBA game I've watched was a game from the '86 finals, Bird vs. Magic. Those were the days.

Poor soccer, even a thread about the Crew, who hasn't lost in 16 games, gets turned into a discussion about the decay of the NBA.

Go Crew!

Sloops- See.. My problem is not necessarily the McGrady's and Bryants of the world, or Marbury--- There will always be spoiled overly talented, under motivated guys... I'm talking about the guys who are like the 4th to 10th best guys on the team... How many NBA Teams have 4 athletic 2's and 3's that either never get in the game or are a nightmare when they do because all tehy can do is Dunk... but what they can't do is Pass, Shoot or Pick or Defend or anything else.

Back off, Oiler. Hockey rules. You just need to go to a game. I never had one ounce of interest in hockey until I went to a Blue Jackets game, but now I try to watch every game I can....although with this lockout, the sport is taking one hell of a nosedive.

As for soccer, I agree with Oiler, not all that interested. I've gone to several games, but there just isn't the same excitement or appeal for me.
I wouldn't ever criticize person for liking a sport. I'm merely stating that the reason sports like soccer and hockey aren't as popular is because we've grown up playing certain sports and learning the fine points that help us appreciate how difficult everything is that they are doing. Soccer and hockey just appear simplistic to the average viewer because there is low scoring and a lot of back and forth movement. In fact, to an uneducated viewer (like myself) it seems like more luck than anything is involved in getting a goal.

It is simply because we've grown up playing and watching football, basketball and baseball that we understand the strategy and the beauty of every aspect of the game. Until you understand the rules and the strategy...it's incredibly boring. If truth be told, most Buckeye Football fans (like myself) concentrate so much on tOSU that it doesn't leave much sports time to go around.

I didn't mean to trash hockey (or soccer for that matter). Just trying to offer insight into the minds of those of us who appear indifferent to the sports.

The only "sport" (and I use that term loosely) that I would knowingly trash is NASCRAP. But thats a discussion for a different thread.

Proof that soccer isn't all that interesting. This thread started out talking about soccer, and was quickly turned into a Basketball debate.

An exciting 16 game lossless streak at 8-0-8, means that half the games ended in a tie. Most, probably didn't clear an over/under of 4 points. Getting excited about not losing, rather than winning sucks,IMO.

Quite frankly, I don't give two squirts who is excited by soccer and who isn't. I'd think though that the fact that a team from Columbus is doing so well on the field, representing the city and the state of Ohio in the way they are, would be fairly exciting. I'd think that'd be enough to generate at least a moderate buzz.

By the way, anybody who saw Edson Buddle's goal last night would understand why soccer is such a beautiful game.:wink2:
