Super Bowl XLI: Bears vs. Colts(-7)

Watched the game with Colts fans and most were upset that Manning won MVP. Everyone said it should have gone to Rhodes or Addai. I'd go with Rhodes looking at the stats he put up, but Addai easily could have been right there too. Manning...eh, not so much.

I'm glad the Colts won, though it didn't seem like that great of a game.

All in all I'd have to say this was one of the most "blah" SB's I've seen. Maybe it was the weather, maybe that I really didn't care about either team...I don't know. I was basically just watching and waiting for Grossman to melt down, which he did.

Tony Dungy Bests Protege Lovie Smith

By STEVEN WINE
AP Sports Writer
MIAMI ? Merely by stepping on the field Sunday, Tony Dungy made cultural history. A few hours later, he won the Super Bowl, too. Not bad for a day's work. Long saddled with a reputation as a coach who couldn't win the big one, Dungy shook that label when his Indianapolis Colts beat the Chicago Bears 29-17.
The biggest win of Dungy's career came against his close friend and protege, Bears coach Lovie Smith. They were the first black head coaches in the 41-year history of the Super Bowl.

"It's all happening pretty fast right now," he said after being voted the Super Bowl MVP in the Colts' 29-17 victory over Chicago on Sunday night. "I'm kind of ? this is just kind of how I am, I guess. I'm excited."

Grossman Falters When Needed Most

By RICK GANO
AP Sports Writer
MIAMI ? This was the Rex Grossman that the Chicago Bears and their fans feared. When the Bears needed a clutch throw to catch up in the fourth quarter, their quarterback couldn't connect.
Instead, Grossman threw a pair of interceptions, one that Kelvin Hayden returned for a touchdown, all but ending Chicago's chance to win the Super Bowl at rainy Dolphin Stadium.

Manning Finally Wins the Big Game

By TIM DAHLBERG
AP Sports Columnist
MIAMI ? He did it on a night when the rain fell, the wind swirled and Prince not only sang about rain but was drenched in it. He did it when everyone around him seemed to have trouble holding onto the ball and his team fell into a familiar early hole.
It never was going to be easy for Peyton Manning. Somehow, it never is.

COLTS RINGING WET

Manning, Indy prevail in downpour
Monday, February 05, 2007Tony Grossi
Plain Dealer Reporter
Miami -- The wettest Super Bowl ever produced one of its sloppiest games, turning pro football's biggest game into a spectacle of turnovers and special-teams miscues.
While it rained on Peyton Manning's parade all day and night in south Florida, it didn't dampen his coronation as a champion.
Manning secured his first NFL championship in his ninth season by grinding the Indianapolis Colts to a 29-17 win over the clawless Chicago Bears in Super Bowl XLI in Dolphin Stadium.

Vinatieri gets his fourth Super Bowl ring
Monday, February 5, 2007

MIAMI (AP) - A few days ago, someone asked Indianapolis kicker Adam Vinatieri to describe what the buildup to the Super Bowl is like.
"It's a three-ring circus," Vinatieri said.

Well, now it's a four-ring circus.

Vinatieri's first season with the Colts ended with a Super Bowl championship, his fourth to go along with three others from his days with the New England Patriots. He missed a 36-yard field goal Sunday, saw an extra-point hold botched and had a kickoff run back for a score, but the Colts beat the Chicago Bears 29-17.

KEVORK DJANSEZIAN ASSOCIATED PRESS The Colts? Dominic Rhodes bulls past Adewale Ogunleye, left, and Nathan Vasher of the Bears on a 1-yard touchdown run.

MIAMI ? Edgerrin James spent the past week in Miami, showing his former teammates his old hometown and presumably driving himself crazy with the thought of what might have been.
James was supposed to play in this game. He spent seven years as the starting running back for the Indianapolis Colts, endured all of their most agonizing playoff losses, and then left last offseason to sign with the Arizona Cardinals.
