that is absolutly gorgeous. are you allowed to ski or wake board, or are motorboats banned? only ask because i didn't see any in the pictures.LloydSev said:
I'm surprised people don't think of floating a river as something that would be fun- unless they're from NYC or something. Sounds like a lot of fun to me. This summer I'll hit Cedar Point once or twice, take a drive through SE Ohio, and count down the days until Miami. I also may get in a few long range shots at some groundhogs- a summertime favorite in NW ohio.High Lonesome said:This weekend will mark the first time that I get to go down to austin and engage in some of my favorite summertime activities. One of the most popular things to do(and the reason for my trip this weekend) if floating the Guadalupe river. People tend to be skepticle of this idea but I have a couple of friends that were outof state students that were blown away when we took them on their first river trip. We all pack up a couple of coolers of beer and head out on our innertubes and float and drink the day away. It is truely a great time to be had by all. Later in the summer i am going to south padre, which while not the white sand beaches of florida, is still a great party. Thinking about this weekend left me wondering, Are there any summer time activities in Ohio that you specificly look forward to every year or something that outsiders look at and say, "thats fun to you?"
Not banned, Put-In-Bay is in Lake Erie. Most people do that stuff closer to the shore than to the islands.High Lonesome said:that is absolutly gorgeous. are you allowed to ski or wake board, or are motorboats banned? only ask because i didn't see any in the pictures.
I hear the snipe are thik this time of year, great eatin' tooThump said:High Lonesome,
That sounds like a BLAST!! You can just use the bathroom any time you need and not have to get up.
You couldn't get away with that shit up here.
I can't think of anything off hand here in Ohio that we may do for fun that you may not understand except for maybe snipe hunting.
i have to say i cant agree with this. i live just outside orlando and i dont belive anyone can compete with our amusement parks. from my house i can watch epcots fireworks everynight. in about 30 minutes i can be at disney, epcot, mgm, animal kingdom, seaworld, universal studios, or islands of adventure. in about an hour i can make it to cypress gardens and in about an hour and a half i can get to busch gardens. thats just the major theme parks but there are a lot of small obscure parks and tourist attractions like international drive.Dryden said:Honestly, if you were to designate Ohio for any particular summertime activity that can't be found anywhere else, I'd say it's for the amusement parks.
I've been to most of the Disney parks from family vacations. They are great for family's but if you want kick ass rollercoasters Ohio is the place be.lowkarma said:i have to say i cant agree with this. i live just outside orlando and i dont belive anyone can compete with our amusement parks. from my house i can watch epcots fireworks everynight. in about 30 minutes i can be at disney, epcot, mgm, animal kingdom, seaworld, universal studios, or islands of adventure. in about an hour i can make it to cypress gardens and in about an hour and a half i can get to busch gardens. thats just the major theme parks but there are a lot of small obscure parks and tourist attractions like international drive.
There is no such thing as bad tubing on the river. You'll see a lot of that going on the smaller rivers in the state (Mohawk / Little Miami and such-like). Let the other folks have the kayaks and canoes for the day (though they are great fun as well) and just drift on with the current.High Lonesome said:This weekend will mark the first time that I get to go down to austin and engage in some of my favorite summertime activities. If you are going to kayak get the most out of it by taking a lesson first. Its very different handling from a canoe, plus its easier to roll -- bad side, its easier to roll under, good side, its easier to roll out of.OSUsushichic said:We usually do a lot of hiking in the summer. There are some great wooded areas up here in New England, and the mountains are beautiful.
I've never kayaked, but that's on my list of things to do this summer, as well as go whale watching.
When we go kayaking it's not for the rush of flipping or catching the rapids we go to drink just like tubing. We only get kayaks because where we go don't offer tubes and it's better being in you own vessel, we like to take an 18 pack each on a 6 mile trip usually by the end your pretty hammered.sandgk said:If you are going to kayak get the most out of it by taking a lesson first. i was refering more to the place being known for theme parks. we may be behind in the roller coaster department but a lot of our parks are starting to push away from the family thing a little. check out islands of adventure and youll see what you miss at disney.scarletandgrey said:I've been to most of the Disney parks from family vacations.
