YouTube - OSU Practice, Fall Jersey Scrimmage

Thanks for the post. Pryor really seems to be throwing the ball with a bit more zip this season, at least in the scrimmage. You can tell they are working with him on that. I noticed a couple of roll-outs as well. I think he will be most dangerous when rolling out to his right. If the pass isn't there he can create something. I think a lot of people are going to be surprised by his passing this season. I know I speak highly of him often, but I think the kid is something special.

If I could choose only one thing I'd like to see more of it would be roll-outs. It would put so much pressure on the D. If the receivers are covered, it'll probably be Pryor one-on-one with a LB. That's a battle he'll win almost every time. I think that would be almost impossible to defend.

Practice next week is closed, but I wonder if we will hear about the starting O-Line. I imagine they have picked the starters and will go with them all week.

At this point it seems like it will be Miller, Boren, Brewster, Browning, Cordle.

Not exactly what I was expecting, but if those are the five that are getting after it the most, so be it.

Sweet throw by TP at 4:56. On the run and a laser between 2 defenders.

What is interesting to me is:
  • It has been previously stated that they intentionally called a majority of the plays as drop-backs to make TP work on his pocket passing.
  • That video obviously focused on plays where the offense was successful, which were few and far between.
  • Most of the successful plays (based on the video) came on roll-outs, even though those plays were far fewer in number than the drop-backs.
Is it just me, or did TP throw the ball on time more in that video than he did all of last season? His decisions are much quicker, which is one of the qualities you need in a roll-out QB. The other 2 qualities are the ability to run and the ability to throw on the run: abilities that he showed last year.

TP may well be one of the most natural roll-out QBs I've ever seen. He has all of the qualities you need in extraordinary abundance.

The one thing I'd really like to see him improve upon is his play action - he gets the ball out, but gets his head whipped around and turns very quickly. It seems as though he could sell it a little better; if he could improve on his ball fake, that would make the bootleg much harder to defend.

In addition, the ball fake from under center is a crucial part of the NFL game. It'd be a good skill to develop.

He does seem to find the open guy a lot more quickly than he did last year, though. After the open practice, I'm not quite sold on his throwing improvement from last year. He's less tentative, but his placement of the ball isn't always great (and occasionally it's downright bad).

All that being said, in live games when his feet become a threat, it's going to make his throws easier. Right now the defense doesn't really have to respect the running threat; live games won't allow that luxury.

Definitely not the tackles we would have predicted six months ago, but at least they have both been around awhile, and I just love that interior lineup. Browning seems so much more suited to OG, and the 3 B's in the middle should be a real strength on this team.

Andy Miller looked really good in that video going up against Thad and Nate. Also, some footage of Bryant Browning pulling from the right side really shows how far he has come with regards to quickness. Really like what I'm hearing/seeing from BB!
That run by J Hall was pretty sweet and the run by Rocco was flat our bad pursuit and poor tackling.

Pryor impressive Wednesday
Anyone who made it down to the Horseshoe Monday night to watch sophomore quarterback Terrelle Pryor throw the ball likely came away underwhelmed. Pryor did have a handful of very nice passes, but he also had some ugly ones, particularly when he was working with the wide receivers during the one-on-one drills in the North end zone.
Pryor looked like a different player Wednesday, particularly with his accuracy in the short and intermediate passing game, where he looked better throwing the ball than any other time we?ve seen him during fall camp. Unofficially, Pryor completed 12 of his 15 passes during the 7-on-7 portion of practice while going 8-of-11 with a drop by DeVier Posey during the full scrimmage.

The one area where Pryor struggled was throwing the deep ball, which is ironic because he was more consistent with his deep ball last year than his short stuff. His worst pass of the day came on a streak by Posey down the right sideline. Posey had a step on Chimdi Chekwa but Pryor under-threw the ball and Posey had to come back for it. He managed to pick up the pass interference call but it was still a poor throw by Pryor. He did throw a great ball, however, late in practice to Ray Small on a streak down the left sideline that would have gone for a touchdown.
