Sugar Bowl: Utah 31, Alabama 17 (Final)

I didn't say they were a top notch program, just that they had the athletes to beat anyone on any given day. Are you saying Miami quit recruiting athletes?

Not much to say about that either. Miami is not a program that makes for a difficult game anymore. Mount Union is recruiting athletes too... doesn't mean they'd deserve that kind of respect at this level.

Alabama got dominated and blown out. I wonder if this will be a stigma hanging over Alabama come next year (or the next few)?

Doubtful, it didn't seem to hang over Oklahomas head except in small groups, the media still loved them, no, I am afraid you need to lose to the #1 or #2 team in the national title to get berated by the rest of the country for a year.

Why? Only playing 3 or 4 games a year where there a reasonable chance of defeat vs. 9 or 10 is a big difference.

I can't think of too many top college programs where the above isn't true. None of the perennial top 20 teams play more than 3 or 4 games per year where the odds are even or against them. Proof: PAC 10 since 1927 USC has been the conference champ or co-champ 38 times. Next best record? UCLA with 18. Big 10 Michigan with 36 since 1916, OSU with 31, Big 8/12/SWC Oklahoma with 38, Texas with 28 since 1920, SEC Alabama with 28, Tennessee with 20.

Gatorubet, what do you think the SEC must do to counteract the distinct speed advantage that the Mountain West holds over your conference?

Bama would have won anywhere but the Sugar Bowl. But as the Sugar is within driving distance, the players had access to Dreamland Barbeque.

The amount of white bread and ribs that was consumed will indeed take .5 off of your 40 times. Utah, eating only organic LDS grown multi-grain and peyote breads had the advantage.....which is why I did not bet the Tahd to win. Plus, it is better than 50-50 that Saban spent the days preceding the game with his agent discussing the Brown's opening.
