I came up with my own prestige rankings a couple of years back, using a similar methodology to ESPN....

Impressive stuff, LJB. A couple of thoughts: considering OSU's lead over UM was <30 pts after the 2009 season, I would have to assume that UM held a greater lead prior to Tressel's first season (factoring in OSU's NC, multiple CC, bowl appearances, Smith's Heisman, and numerous AA). Any chance you could provide the year-by-year totals of when OSU surpassed UM?

Since this metric is to represent the prestige of a program, would it not be appropriate to give an added value to the team that boasts the only two-time Heisman winner?

Wow. You put a lot of time into that.

Jeff has no friends or family. He went to Georgia at some point, and that was that.... :p

(seriously, that was an impressive feat LJB)
The formula is as follows:

50 points for each AP national championship between 1936 and 1949 (pre-coaches' poll)
5 points for each major bowl win (Rose, Sugar, Orange, Fiesta1, Cotton2).

My only comment is that 9 straight wins in a major bowl from 2002-2010 would give you less prestige dap than one leather helmet AP National Championship that only octogenarian alumni remember.

Fragmentation and democratization are important contemporary trends in media. Given a computer and rudimentary skills that can be learned by a chimp, anyone can produce a webpage with a professional appearance or post on a message board like BP.

These trends have important implications for us all. We have to make better choices about what we decide to experience, and especially in what we share with others in this global village.

I didn't read that page in detail because it is clearly an amateurishly-designed attempt to foster negative opinions about Ohio State football, the University, and the State of Ohio. I don't waste my time on nonsense like that.

Every team has some fools supporting it that everyone else would like to ignore. It is epic foolishness to try to generalize about people just because they support another college football team anyway.

But have you ever thought about how incredibly foolish and sad it is to invest so much time to produce something like that?

People write negative things about other groups of people--who they do not really know but perceive to be different than themselves--precisely because of their own deeply-felt sense of low self-esteem and self-loathing. They think it will make them feel better and, for a few moments, it does. But, the glow of "rep" received for disrespecting others must eventually dim. In its place, the embers of disrespect for oneself continue to glow ever brighter.

Magnifying even the real faults of others only magnifies awareness of one's own faults.

So, my reaction is that I'd rather that we take our responsibilities seriously and not dignify stuff like this by even mentioning it on BP. We all know that page does not represent the views of "Arkansas fans". They are as a diverse a crowd as Ohio State fans. They probably as uninformed about Ohio State and Ohio State fans as we are about them.

My guess is that they hold very similar feelings for Arkansas that we hold for Ohio State. Last time I checked, even though they are so close to Texas, they were still Americans, just like the Buckeye nation.

I am so proud of BP in the way that people react to this here. Take a look around at other boards and think for a moment about what a special place this is.

Thanks for giving us all the chance to see that contrast so clearly.

An OSU fan posted an article by an Arkansas fan which was hardcore trolling and juvenile. The article comments were largely SEC/Arkansas fans mocking the writer for his stupidity and classless representation of them.

I also did something to rate teams all-time. I took the final poll rankings for each year since 1936, and gave teams points based on where they finished each year. I added a penalty for losing seasons.

It's based simply on poll finishes, with the added penalties for losing seasons. tOSU is 3rd and Arkansas is 18th on this list.

I've been searching the net and tv for analysis of this game and maybe even find a prediction or two. Below is all I could find so far as most major networks and websites haven't posted predictions yet.

CSS Bowl Preview Show aired at 4:00pm et Thursday.
The four sports commentators stated their opinions
about each and every bowl. Who did they pick to win
the Sugar Bowl?
Tom=ARK
Bob=ARK
Tony=ARK
Brady=ARK
Mark(absent from the show but submited his picks)=ARK

Allen Kim of bleacherreport.com
"Jim Tressel's track record against SEC teams in Bowl games is awful. He hasn't won a single game against the powerhouse SEC division going 0-9.
However, all that will change in the Sugar Bowl.
Ohio State will come out on top in a close and exciting game against the Arkansas Razorbacks."

Yes, I know they are just commentators, but it says alot
about what ppl in the college football community think
about ARK,and OSU for that matter. Anyone else found any other analysis or predictions please share, I'm having trouble finding anything for this game and I am just curious as to what the so-called pro's and commentators think of this game.

No.

It's not like either of those.

just giving you a heads up.

we've been where y'all are right now.

coach comes in and resurrects a dormant program
his name pops up yearly for every coaching job in America.
fan base starts sweating and getting nervous
he parlays that into a bigger contract at current job.
fan base breathes a sigh of relief and convinces themselves he'll never leave them.

rinse and repeat until he finds his next "dream" job.

maybe Bobby P has finally settled down.
but he has a reputation of flirting with more job openings jumping ship more often than Saban does.

You'll start losing some of that red if you start researching before posting. Jim Tressel is NOT 0-9 vs. the SEC. Fact checking FTW.

BTW, every expert in the world was picking Oregon last season. How did that turn out for them?
